I was wondering the same thing. One of the verified purchase reviews state the following:
"The plugs themselves work fine. No issues with initial setup or connection quality. As others have noted, you need to download the AUKEY app, register your account, and add the plugs on there before you can add them to your hub (look for "Smart Life" service for Google Home). Note that you do NOT have to provide your location on the AUKEY app. Also, you do NOT have to give the app any of the invasive permissions it'll ask for on Android, it works fine without them. I used the phone number option for account confirmation, which some say is more responsive than the email option."
I'm struggling to see what makes the Kasa's worth twice as more as compared to these, is there some functionality difference that I'm missing? Thanks in advance for any help provided

As res0a9mn mentioned one reviewer said he'd used the Smart Life app.
Another reviewer (for the 2-pack version of this plug) mentions that the Tuya app worked as well

And at least this version of the manual for the plug even mentions to use the Tuya app
https://images.aukey.co
which I think is the supplier of smart plugs for many resellers, and urlhasbeenblocked is a version of the Tuya app.
