In addition, is it possible to use my ISP's router and wifi signal to extend in my home or does this Google system replace my ISP's wifi router?
And lastly, why the thumbs down in this thread? It appears that this deal is in line with the 2 other current Nest wifi deals out there.
I currently have a Netgear Orbi system that has served me well for the past few years, but has started dropping my internet connection on a regular basis. I've read online that this seems to be a common problem with them.

Nest wifi and goggle wifi pucks CAN be mixed to extend the mesh system for cheaper.

The backhaul allows each access point to take advantage of better speeds than pure wifi mesh. But most houses are not wired for this.
I'm in a 3 story, single family home. My router is in the basement, and the top floor still gets 300/300 on a gig connection. Router gets 800+/800+ as my standard speeds.
The Google/ nest setup is easy, fast, and the Google home app allows you to see what's connected to your system, and give priority to a TV or gaming PC, if you think you need it. As someone with 43 devices ranging from smart home bulbs, to TVs, and a gaming rig connected to the Google wifi, I find no need to give priority to anything. It's stupidly fast. You can even test the speed of individual devices to the mesh network via the wifi app.
