Great find for the vanlife crowd. By comparison, an 100 Amp hour LifePO4 battery from Battleborn costs $1000.

OK, I'll ask it.

What are the advantages of this battery over a regular 12v battery that justifies 7x the price? I get that it's 105ah but aren't normal batteries around 70ah and this maybe lasts twice as long...3x at best.

LiFePO is not the same as lithium ion, which is probably what you're referring to. LiFePO is less energy dense but highly resistant to bursting in flames when overcharged or otherwise abused. It also has many-fold charge/discharge cycles over Li ion, making long term storage and repeated use more reliable. In calculating total operating costs over the life of any pack, one must multiply total mAh with charge cycles to give total energy stored and used to determine if a pack is economical. I didn't do the math on this pack, but usually LiFePO packs can be cheaper in the long term over an equivalent Li ion pack just for the cycle count. Fire resistance is also highly desirable when these are mounted to a home or structure.

Edit: Sorry, I just read your reference to 12V batteries. If you're referring to lead acid batteries, then LiFePO batteries are much newer technology with higher energy density within less mass, meaning it takes up less space for the same amount of electricity stored. Also, if an SLA battery is deeply discharged, then its usually toast. So in a prolonged blackout and use of SLA packs can destroy the pack, whereas LiFePO do not have that problem (when used with a good battery management system).

Good battery but the capacity was overstated on the UT1200. It tested to about 1,000 Watthours. Maybe they have corrected the problem with the UT1300 but Costco website shows it weighing only 23lbs so that's not a good sign. Should weigh more than 30lbs for that rated capacity.

Wouldn't a SLA (sealed lead-acid) set-up using deep-cycle (ie Marine/RV) batteries also benefit from a similar charge/discharge-limiting component (mitigating destruction)? [if willing to accept an increase in size/weight for significant cost saving]

Moderation, in all things--

Deep cycle batteries will tolerate deep discharges better (perhaps in the order of a few multiples of 10) than starter batteries. Lithium batteries are in a different league because they tolerate deep discharges in the order of thousands of times.
