Well they are trying new things with this IPAD. They are throwing some weird 3d sensor and hope that developers catch use for it. I personally think it is going to be another gimmicky feature like 3d touch but Apple is pushing it to this ipad and iphone.
1. Slightly faster processor.
2. Wide angle camera
3. 3d sensor
4. Faster wifi from 800 mb to 1gb
5. Increase in baseline storage (64 vs 128). More storage for the same price
6. Compatibility with magic keyboard ($300 btw)
May be worth 100 bucks more but 2018 ipad will be discounted once new one is released. I speculate 2018 model will be around $600. For $150 more, I don't think it's worth it.

The faster Wi-Fi is only applicable if you have a Wi-Fi 6 router. And even then, there are many factors that effect wireless speeds.
Also, the 2018 iPad Pro is also compatible with the upcoming Magic Keyboard w/trackpad.
$800 for tablet without keyboard...
