Lens is heavy, but it's as sharp as my Canon 24-70 2.8 ii with the added bonus of great image stabilization.

I paid $1200 for it back in July. This is what it goes for used.

Looks like stock is limited, expires soon. Best price I've found on a brand new 70-200 2.8. Based on my own research this model is just as good as Canon and Nikon's own brands.

It is also the same price on Adorama, and they throw in the Sigma lens dock for free as well.

Oops forgot to add price. It's $999. Also available on Adorama with the Sigma sync dock as well.

Is this "Sports Lens" the higher model than Sigma's ART series?

Thoughts on comparing it to the two Tamron lenses? $899 right now at Amazon for the 1st gen.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...20&ie=UTF8

The Tamron G2 is going for $1099.

I just haven't had luck with Sigma lenses on my Nikons - too many missed shots due to random focus errors. Has anyone noticed an improvement with newer bodies?

I just got upgraded from D7000 to D7500 and didn't help my Sigma lenses but they're older models.

The Sports indicator means it's sealed against weather conditions. Like all lenses it's not 100% sealed to the worst weather, but it does give you protection, more than the basic lens.

Not really. Sigma's naming is supposed to indicate what the lens is used for. This is from a BandH blog:

"The lens categories are Contemporary, Art and Sports, with the basic emphasis being compact and multifunctional for the Contemporary line; large-aperture, quality prime lenses for the Art line; and high-performance, durable telephoto and zoom lenses for the Sports line."

From what I remember when researching, the G2 is pretty well regarded. If weight is a concern it's probably the better option (or Canon's 70-200 f4, which is super light).

Both Sigma and Tamron have made huge strides in their current lens lines, so don't bother with the older version at $900.
