Finally, something to watch with the kids besides Frozen 2.
Very good supernatural horror movie, much better than most recent stuff. No cheap jump scares, though a couple of moments that probably will make you jump a little, mostly just suspense, dread, and horror. As the guys from Cinemassacre said, this movie is like that feeling that someone is in the room with you hiding in the dark corner for 2 hours. It actually gave James nightmares, which is pretty rare for someone who watches as much horror as he does. I don't think it was nearly that bad, but it's definitely one I'm glad I had company to watch with me.
If you decide you like this one, make sure you check out Ari Aster's other modern horror flick Midsommar. Very different style -- folk horror, think Wicker Man -- but beautifully shot, plenty of cringe-inducing slasher-type horror, and frequently chilling or at least at least skin-crawling. Also the first time I've seen a director take all the fun out of a sex scene that involves full frontal (and then some) nudity with a gorgeous redhead, but in the most horror-movie-appropriate, mildly psychologically scarring way.
Don't believe this kid, he probably thinks Truth or Dare is the scariest movie of all time and has the attention span of a gnat.
Hereditary is disturbing as hell. Showed this during a Halloween party at my friend's house, and everyone stopped partying to watch it when "that scene" happened. It's a movie where all you can do is watch breathlessly.
Every single shot and idea just keeps building tension, for 2 hours, until you are drained. Then the ending hits. Toni Colette is amazing in it. One of the best horror movies I've ever seen, and I've seen hundreds.

Both movies were awesome (although I didn't like the Hereditary ending). The full frontal in Midsommar was of Jack Reynor, who was the lead in Transformers - Age of Extinction.

Ha. I was talking about Isabella Grill, but yeah, him too. And a whole lot of other people. Hell of a scene.
this wasnt scary at all nor did it give me any sort of chill whatsoever. acting from mother and the son was good though. whomever the other guy is citing i feel like was exaggerating this a bit too much, or i just plain don't buy that he actually watches that many scary movies. overall i thought it was a bit boring and idk what there is to think about after watching this movie.
You don't buy that James from Cinemassacre[cinemassacre.com] watches many horror movies? I don't even know how to respond to that. His career is basically built on reviewing horror movies (and The Angry Video Game Nerd thing that got popular).
I mean, like I said, I didn't think it was nearly that bad myself. It's really the only last 20 minutes or so that are even really actively "scary" in any real "the danger is here now" sense. And yeah, Toni Collette is great in pretty much anything.

Thanks for putting that in, saves us the trouble. Sounds link an interesting flick, I'll put it into my iTunes and public library wishlist.
