Ridgid R86448B 18V Octane Brushless One Handed Reciprocating Saw (Tool Only) [directtoolsoutlet.com] is $80 at Direct Tools Factory Outlets, or can be shipped for $7. Factory blemished.

Lowest price I've seen online for this model. Never seems to be included as a tool + battery kit special promotion at Home Depot. Great for tight spaces, or pruning. Appears to be eligible for LSA.

Features:
  • On/off orbital action for faster wood cutting (orbital) or for metal cutting (non-orbital) applications
  • Ergonomics built for user comfort and easy use in tight spaces
  • 30% less vibration for more control
  • 3X the power for ultimate demolition work
  • Sight line blower directs debris away from the cut line for increased visibility
  • Grip light engages LED light independently of the trigger to illuminate work space
  • OCTANE Tools deliver maximum power and performance with 2.5X the power compared to the previous unit
  • Brushless Motor Technology delivers over 50% more runtime, more power, and longer motor life
  • 100% Compatible: Works with all RIDGID 18-Volt Batteries and Chargers
  • Backed by the Industry Leading Lifetime Service Agreement with registration within 90 days of purchase
  • Includes: (1) 18-Volt OCTANE Cordless Brushless One-Handed Reciprocating Saw, reciprocating saw blade, and operator's manual
  • Battery and charger sold separately

Home Depot [homedepot.com] sells this R86448B model for $129.

This is a good tool, but check the wire blade guard; every model I've ever owned or handled in store had a loose guard that can't be tightened. I ended up returning one unit, and then its replacement, before switching to Milwaukee's 18V Fuel Hackzall, which I'm really happy with.

Comments on power of this tool vs full size ridgid and/or your Milwaukee and/or whatever references you have? Obviously the idea is to use in tight spaces, but on the fence re: adding this to complement my full size recip.

Hi. I've got Ridgid's Octane full-sized recip., but I've never used it. Guess I'm saving it for bigger jobs in the future. Both the Milwaukee Hackzall and, before that, this one-handed Ridgid saw were more than powerful enough to chop up big tree roots in my yard and prune tree limbs overhanging my roof.

I'd like to know how this compares to the JobMax reciprocating attachment, as I already have a JobMax. Is this notably more capable?

This Ridgid reciprocating saw has a 3/4" stroke.

The JobMax [homedepot.com] attachment is only 1/2" stroke.

We see this every time a Ridgid factory blem comes up.

Every new Ridgid power tool, including factory blems, automatically comes with a 3-year warranty. You also get the lifetime service agreement (LSA) when you sign up for it on Ridgid's website. As dozens of us have repeatedly said, factory blems from Direct Tools (the manufacturers outlet store) definitely do qualify for the LSA. Factory blem from Direct Tools is even an option to choose during the registration process.

ive stopped myself from buying factory blems because i always figured that theyre not covered under the lifetime service agreement. it doesnt help that theres no info anywhere on the ridgid webpage and directtools only says the 3 year warranty. Damn the more you know
