I sincerely hope Kohls survives this difficult time and hopefully doesn't go out of business
I am an Amazon employee (AWS) and I only have excellent experience. I worked for few different companies and I would say Amazon is the best place to work at compared to all the other companies I worked for. We innovate at a breakneck pace. So, if you like what you do, you have some really great things to work on. It's also the most fluid company I have ever worked at. I get asked every morning from an automated system about various job satisfaction related question. Those get analyzed, anonymized and discussed at all hands, team meetings etc. You can easily switch teams also if you want a career switch. The focus is always on how to improve employee satisfaction (and of course how to make company as a whole a better place to work so that they can make more money I guess. But I don't mind as I am happy). I am not denying the warehouse may have different condition. But that is life. I often remind my wife and other relatives about the hard fact of life. No matter which company, they are all here to make money. If things get worse, and supply exceeds demand (for my job category and my skillset) I will get fired. All Koh's, Macy's workers are on furlough e.g. I don't think Michelle Gass (Kohl's CEO) is on furlough.

That being said, my loyalty is only to 3 companies: Amazon, Costco and Kohls. I almost never shop outside of these 3. I cannot deny how Amazon changed my life long before I joined Amazon. I don't like to go outside much and I can't imagine how I could survive without my OCD shopping from my couch. If Amazon can match Costco price and convenience for grocery, I would probably stop going to Costco. Not that I don't like Costco, but because I just don't like to leave my house. And finally, Kohl's: who can beat Kohl's price? Not even Amazon can ever sell those Instant Pots at the price that Kohls sells. 2 months ago I bought 2 Instant Pot (A duo crisp and a regular Duo as backup for rice cooker when I make those long Yogurt session). It's crazy how cheap those were. And I bought $60 pants (really high quality; I know Kohl's mark up their price crazily) for literally $10 each (bought 7 of all colors and I am set for few years) with a gazillion stacking coupons and of course 7 different orders. Last night ordered a Pyrex 11 cup for $0 including shipping (using $10 Kohl's cash of course). I would sorely miss Kohl's if they run out of business. But then they will probably run out of business for me. I really hope for the best for Amazon (not just employee but as a truly grateful shopper, lover of Prime video etc.), Costco (can't buy those Organic supplement, Organic milk or Pasture raised eggs anywhere at that price point) and Kohl's (my favorite household shopping place).

P.S. I am already using Prime Now to shop all my groceries from Amazon and Whole Foods. Even Instacart doesn't have any delivery window (Amazon is also scarce but I can manage by checking couple times a day). That's another life saver for me as I don't want to expose myself to Covid-19 during grocery shopping and fight over Costco lines. It's all gratitude for Amazon for their years worth of service.

P.P.S. Amazon was a tiny company once upon a time. Even in 2008 I remember ordering a box of can of sardines that I didn't like and they refunded me instantly without even asking me to return. I know their return policy tightened now. But dealing with many return system abusers when you have millions of shoppers is not easy I guess. They operate on razor thin margin as well. The point is, they were small once upon a time. They worked their way up to this "supposed" monopoly (look up definition of monopoly. None of the business Amazon does is a monopoly. Not even AWS which has lions share. Each sector has well established competitors who are doing pretty well and in some cases are even larger in revenue. Online sales is a tiny part of overall retail. AWS has healthy competition from Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud etc.

I think Kohl's is in a much better position compared to a bunch of other retailers such as JCPenney, GameStop, Bed Bath and Beyond, or Macy's which are closing a ton of stores . I'm sure they'll be able to make it through but it truly would suck if they went out of business. Most of my business would probably go to Amazon or Costco as I buy a lot of housewares from Kohl's

They have the worst check out and return lines in the stores. Most of the workers are just walking around and spending too much time on a transaction. Customer experience is not the best and they need to make a lot of changes in management.

Amazon is the last place I buy things. When I'm buying movies, whenever Best Buy or Target has the same price as Amazon, I buy from former. Besides, it's always Amazon doing the price matching, not the other way around. So that means my business should go to the merchant which initiated the low price.

And the company is one of the worst to work with. If you work at their IT, it's very cut throat. If you work at their warehouse, it's like a sweatshop. They fired a guy who demanded more safety at the warehouse after the facility had several workers contracted corona virus.

The only thing you probably should be buying is the stock. I had 50% of my money on Amazon stock and I'm still up for the year whereas lots of people are down 20-30% for the year.

I disagree with check-out being bad; getting in line and checking out at Kohl's is usually very quick and easy. Even if the line is long such as on BF, that line moves along very quickly. And if there's ever a question on a price or with a coupon or promo code, they always err on the side of the consumer. Never had a problem!

The return line?? Yikes, that can be horrendous! I'm not a returns type of person, I usually avoid getting myself into a return situation at almost all cost but on those few occasions when I've had to make a return and stand in that line, wow, man, calendar pages were turning in my head it seemed to take soooo loooooong. And I always feel bad for whoever has to put away that giant mountain of returns that accumulates behind the desk too, seriously.

The worst part about all this is people defending a company that is a monopoly. Some of us just prefer options and dont want to live in a world with only one option. That doesn't mean the latter is any better but Amazon is certainly the best example of bad business practices and unfair competition strategies. I know it sucks going to the store "Karen" but I kind of like leaving the house.
