Holding out for the 14TB/$200 deal
Got a 12tb elements (has the true 12tb white drive inside) which is definitely PMR. Check if the drive has TRIM support via crystaldisk... If it does, it's SMR.
12TB 7200RPM: "The WD 12TB Easystore enclosure comes with a beefy 7200-RPM 12TB drive, but only retails for a mere $179.99 during Best Buy's" from Tom's Hardware during the BF sale. (https://www.tomshardware.com/news...-hdd-deal)

14TB 5400RPM: "What's interesting about this is that it looks like a 7200-RPM data center drive that's been slowed down to 5400-RPM for stuffing into the Best Buy packaging." from reddit discussion (https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoar..._shucked/)

Probably doesn't make a big difference for most, but if you're doing a lot of VM work in an array, you may rather have this 12TB 7200RPM drive for $180 instead of waiting for the slower 14TB 5400RPM one for $200. But both are pretty repeatable deals the last 6mo.

EDIT: As pointed out in following posts, these drives are all 5400rpms, my bad!

Google Shopping promo code didn't work, but I still bought 2 from Best Buy via Google... and 6 from Best Buy direct (3 orders). We'll see how many of the Best Buy orders are cancelled by the time I get up in the morning!
Mine didn't work either

I'm on the same boat. Why aren't they ever on sale?
