Wasn't sure how to title this, so I'll make it a PSA with YMMV in the title.

I went to Target today to exchange a SodaStream CO2 canister. Due to Covid-19, they didn't accept my empty canister but honored the refill price of $14.99. She didn't check with a manager and seemed to know this was the protocol, so I imagine this should be the case for every Target, but I didn't ask.

Bottom line: I got a brand new CO2 canister for $14.99 instead of the $29.99 they charge if you don't exchange your old one. Not recommending you head out if you don't need to, but if you have an empty canister sitting around, this is a great time to "refill" it as you'll get an extra canister out of the deal.

I had the same experience when I tried to do an exchange last week at Target.

Get CO2 and get some free Covid. Not worth a trip to target...
Correct, which is why I said in my post I'm not recommending a trip if you don't already need groceries, but many Targets sell groceries and that's why I was at mine.

Both the Targets in my area as well as the WallMart refused to do an exchange. Said they didn't do them anymore (tried Target before the Covid-19 thing). Only option left was via mail direct from Sodastream. Had to pay something like $8 shipping and now they're telling me that there will be a delay - order placed over a week ago and still in 'Received' status. Still took their $39.39 for the order though. Wondering if they are going out of business....

They are partially shut down due to covid and their email dept is redirected to UK right now. I placed an order for 6 refills right before the shut down in early march and received my order as usual about 3 days later. They've extended the return window for your empties to 60 days. I never pay shipping when I order refills.

That's what two Walmarts told me as well before I tried Target. Sorry you didn't have better luck.

Pepsi owns Sodastream, chances are they won't.

Don't remember how long ago but when I tried to do a swap on a canister at Target, they were not doing it because of BDS. Then they passed legislation that made BDS movements illegal and Target now carries their products again.

Fair point. I admittedly overlooked that portion of your post. Good find though!

No worries. I understand there's a lot of dummies out there that are still walking the Earth. Stay safe.

FWIW, in California, placed an order on Monday last week, stuck processing until Wednesday, received on Thursday.

If retail aren't collecting empties, though, there's going to be regional pipeline problems.

Do you do this at any register or do you take it to the customer service / return area? Best Buy seems to have pulled their online listing for exchanges.

Wow. I had to Google this to see what you were talking about - https://youtu.be/BVlVqNQXJTk

Have you tried this yourself? I wonder how safe this would be?
