Geez... Both are overkill imo for podcasts.
You could get away with using Audacity for free

Just go with Audacity or something similar. With Ableton or ProTools, you'll be paying for a ton of functions that you don't need. It's music production software.

Separate topic:

I've been eyeing the Push 2 + live suite for a few years now and the cheapest I've ever seen it go is $1000 during this past Black Friday. I didn't buy it then and wish I had. This is the third cheapest option of obtaining the Push 2 + live suite (second is the 40% education discount, first being wait till another BF deal ).

I'm trying real hard to convince myself I need to upgrade from Lite 9 to Standard 10. It seems that this is as good of a discount as this will get.

Hmmm.. have you looked at Bitwig? If you're still using Lite I'd give it serious consideration before "fully" committing to a daw. Imo, live 10 should have been a free update labeled under 9.7 or something.. But to call it a fully featured update was a slap in the face of the user base. There wasn't a whole lot of new features added to 10 and the subsequent updates have been lackluster. It's almost as if Ableton had lost its creative edge. Do you already have maschine? MK3 is solid hardware especially with the integrated audio interface and NI continues to improve the Maschine software thru updates. You could totally run live lite as your daw to fine tune Maschine compositions. I find maschine to be way easier to sketch and get ideas out compared to Push with Live.. NI did a superb job actually thinking thru workflows and how to efficiently integrate that with the hardware. Push + Live still feels like an afterthought to this day. Definitely a bummer.
'Been using Ableton since Live 5.

As a podcaster who has used Ableton, Pro Tools, and Audacity... I'd suggest starting with Garageband...if you're a Mac owner.

For the newbies who have not selected a DAW yet:
Spend the extra $40 and get this package

https://www.amazon.com/Novation-Launchkey-Mini-25-Mini-Key-Keyboard/dp/B07WJZCPT3?tag=slickdeals&ascsubtag=455e23687b3711ea8d2d22a93d43f6d80INT

These can be found cheap for $99 if you're patient and INCLUDE Live Lite. Using a controller will greatly increase your workflow efficiency.
For beginners, the 16 channels is more than enough (it was 8 when I started using Live, maybe even 4 way back when) to create music, especially with creative routing and flattening/ rendering audio.
Couple Lite with a vst like Serum, Pigments, Massive X (all which can be had for cheap during specials, just sign up for emails with those companies and you're gtg.

Never heard of, Bitwig, but will look into it, thanks.
