I just tried this, my membership was good until 10/2020. Now it is good until 4/2021.
So yeah, if you are near the end of your membership this is good. Otherwise YMMV.

That's awesome. The fine print says it's for new member only. Why are the odds that they will block you or cancel your membership for doing that, I wonder?
Parents use this so I'm considering buying and extension for them.
Do you enter it under promotion code on the BJ's website when you go to renew?

You mentioned you overwrote your existing membership ID on your account.
This would be great way to keep your existing online account, but you are still using the new membership.
This method should only be used if your membership is ending in a month or two. * and dont care about getting a new membership ID #.

I've been renewing "new members only" membership for years with the same name/address/driver license..... You realize these memberships in warehouses is all BS, right? It's just marketing and crowd/stats control, nothing else. There's a very large profit margin on products, and some more than others (like their own Berkley-Jensen for example)... Their membership fees nets them billions in revenue as well. I do prefer Costco over BJ hands down as their food selection is superb compared to BJ's.
