Never had a GoPro and i basically sit at home all day, but bought one anyway. Thanks slickdeals

GoPro of any version makes for a terrible dashcam. It's been years and GoPro hasn't added the simplest of dashcam functions: auto power on when connected to power, auto start recording when turned on, auto power off when disconnected from power. Turning on and remembering to turn off a GoPro every... single... drive... is a feat of its own.

The main feature of the Hero8 is Hypersmooth, but the algorithm works horribly as a dashcam. When mounted on anything where the direction of travel is obvious (eg a car) you turn left and the video pans right (minimizes motion in the video). Not only is it infuriating to watch, having the video pan in the wrong direction ruins the value of having a GoPro as a dashcam when

If you still want a GoPro dashcam, and aren't going to use Hypersmooth, then you're better off buying the cheaper/clearance Hero5 Black or Hero6 Black.

Dang, I'm really thinking of getting this. I don't really have a need for this but always thought they were cool and would be nice to use every once in a while, just not sure I'd use it enough. Might be nice for road trips and other vacations.

Might have to purchase and then think about it with Costco's return policy. I'm assuming these are 90 days like other electronics.

Do they make decent generic accessories or should you really go with the GoPro branded accessories?
Buy now think later! You can use it for many things even at home, just a good old time-lapse from window is a good use case. For accessories, it depends. If you are mounting camera on the car or somewhere risky, I'd go with gopro accessories. That being said, I have used several third party accessories over the years and surprisingly the only accessory that broke was the gopro one :/

Shoot. I bought the 7 Black not long before the 8 was released and got a bunch of extra accessories (i.e. extra batteries, superchargers, etc.). Does anyone know if the 8 uses the same batteries as the 7 so I can get this and use all the accessories I got for this also? Would hate to get the 8 and have the 7 sitting with all those accessories I had bought lol. I keep finding conflicting information online.

Thanks in advance!
Same batteries from what I understand (chargers etc)

Not sure if any of the cases will work though.

I think they are getting easier to use. Really depends on what you want to use it for though. It won't make magic Big Grin

But if you're looking for something to record your hobbies I think they are great little cameras. From a photography perspective I don't feel like they can replace a good camera phone or a mirrorless/DSLR

Same battery but for hypersmooth 2.0 feature, you better use the new battery

Also if u have 7, you don't need to update to 8 at all. Check some videos!
