I know I buy the high end stuff but reading the reviews on the spincaster is shocking. It's like they used the line it came with. They also never took it apart. I brrak all my new reels down. Clean them up and add what I feel is the right amount of oil and grease.

My dad uses spincasters. I did the same for him. Removed the junky line. Cleaned it out for him and tighten everything down. He abused it for 2 years before I had to break it down again for him. I guess I don't understand why they would think a 25 dollar setup would work right out the package.

Edit: I'm certain this uses plastic gears. Eventually they'll wear down on you making the trek junk. That's okay. If you managed to wear it down it means you actually enjoy fishing and now you can spend some real money on your next setup.

Daiwa 6' Lady Samurai X Spinning Combo Medium Light (2019) $15 Store Pickup Dick's

I think this is last year's model so availability is limited. The 2020 model is $30.

I have been using samurai combo this spring that I bought last year, pretty decent for the price. Perfect for the kid to learn how to fish, and cheap enough just in case he stepped on it by accident.

Thank you!

Note that the spincast version has worse review compare to the spinning reel. Having said that, the spinning reel is very basic, but get the job done so far for my kid to use. I do have a spare (better) reel if mine broke - I am not even going to attempt to fix it or warranty it.

Bought this in the fall when it was on sale for the same price. Put some braided line on, lubed it up, and have taken it out a few times so far this spring.

It works fine, but can very much tell it's a cheap reel. Perfect for the wife who fishes with me twice a year. Casts fine, retrieves fine, just doesn't perform very well when reeling in a fish. Wife caught about a 1.5 lb bass in 3 ft water when we were out this weekend, and looked like she was struggling to pull it in. Kinda surprised me, so I tried it out for a bit. Hooked up to a bass around 1 lb, and was surprised how much the reel struggled to pull it towards shore.

That being said, at $15 for occasional use or for someone just getting started, this is a really good deal. Surprisingly smooth for such a cheap price. If you fish regularly, I'd stay away from this. I certainly won't be taking this rod out with me.

These reels are not as good as a zebco open reel from Walmart for a few dollars more much better.

I bought a few of the same ones about a year ago, the anti reverse went out on one(after a few decent fish were caught on it) took it back and exchanged it no problem. The others have functioned flawlessly, I use them for bass fishing, occasional saltwater use(mostly bait fishing)they are cheap setups, but for a beginner fisherman, or just a few setups for friends to use instead of my expensive gear, this is a great setup, I highly recommend for the price, also I put braid on mine, and oiled them up as well before using them

That is not the same model in a different color. That is a spincast reel. The one featured is a spinning reel. The most similar one in blue is the 6'6" spinning reel in medium.

this combo is a great reel for this price. I bought a 2 for 30 deal a few years ago, this one and the light action blue one. this one gets more use. i use it for a powerbait trout set up for the last couple of years. its not an expensive combo by any means. the reel is plasticky, the drag isnt super smooth nor are the gears. the gears are metal by the way, but cheap metal, nothing fancy. But the antireverse has never failed on me, nor have i ever lost a fish due to reel failure. guides are still in good shape, only opened it up to clean it once after a muddy trip. its perfectly suitable for small to large trout (have caught a few 2-3 lb 18-20 inchers on it) or finesse bass fishing. I don't think it would last very long with saltwater fishing. its great for a starter rod or a loaner rod.

as for the comment about it taking forever to reel in a fish. that has to do with the gear ratio more than the reel itself. as well as setting the drag properly to fight the fish properly. you aren't gonna find many 6 or 7 speed reels at this price point, nor do they make that many spinning rods like that.

So, I have the blue Samurai X and use it all the time. I've caught bunches of fish with it such as a 22" stripped bass, 5lb spotted bass, and a 30" carp. I used a 12lb braided line on it. No problems with it and it's been great so far except for snagging it and losing the end piece of the rod.

Have bought a few of these models about 3-4 years ago. One broke last season. I would recommend, especially for the price and for kids. Pay attention to the rod action and match up with what you might want to catch. Heavier action, bigger fish or baits, lighter action smaller fish and smaller baits.
