I don't mean to be rude but this reply is ignorant. Most of these are for during activity and for immediate energy (calories). Protein is not an efficient source of energy for endurance activities and takes much longer to digest. This is not feasible in the middle of a race or activity. Post activity the protein can be helpful to help repair and rebuild muscle though. These gels are designed to keep you going during activity. They contain electrolytes and a form of sugar which is quickly digested for the quick energy boost. When using these correctly they can improve performance. Check the research or even testimonials on amazon. Gu gels have like 5000 reviews. Also unless your packing away 10 of these a day while binge watching netflix, I think the diabetes scare is a bit paranoid. Most people are aware that exercise decreases risk of diabetes. When using these during exercise likely at least an hour they can likely be very helpful without increasing any risk of diabetes.
What? You ever try keeping a half dozen candy bars on you during a marathon? This isn't for a gym. It's for endurance athletes that literally burn through every bit of glycogen in their bodies while running, biking, or whatever for hours on end without stopping. Chances are the people that buy these are doing most of the right things to avoid diabetes.

Is this just a regular stroopwafel or are there special ingredients?
Basically they're a stroopwafel, but with honey instead of caramel. The idea is it provides longer lasting energy and are therefore better suited for taking backpacking/hiking. They are also individually wrapped, again making it easier to bring with you.
New study shows, Thirst Quenchers such as Gatorade, sports drinks etc are simply beaten by Milk 🥛. That's right. Drinking milk 🥛 does a better job satisfying a dehydrated body due to intense physical activities.
Good price from normal, but it is still just expensive sugar for a minimal instant energy boost. I now carry regular jelly beans or some hard candies to suck on just for the flavor. These jelly beans are still $15 a pound after the sale.

Did you read how they did the "study"? It is so unscientific it's a joke.

I agree. Although REI has free shipping on all orders right now (instead of $50 minimum) so that certainly sweetens the deal.

Quick(er) energy based on what you'd choose. Def some good options to have handy if you need a quick boost. Thanks OP!
