The XCW from Arai features an adjustable peak to shield your eyes. The cheek pad design is unique, mimicking those found in full-face helmets, to provide additional coverage. Speaker pockets let you easily add a communication system to the Arai XC-W Helmet. -slickdewmaster

Had the older version which had the visor (it's mostly used for off-roading to block the sun) but I used it on a R1200GSA, F800GS and Sertao for tens of thousands of miles.

The visor doesn't really catch the wind. The above mentioned bikes have windscreens (with the Sertao having the smallest of the bunch). When I'd wear it when riding the KTM's (no wind screen on plated dirt bikes / super-moto) you simply have to angle your head down just a little bit.

If you did a glance 90 degrees to the left and right, it would catch, but about 75 or straight ahead, no problem.

For additional sun protection, electrical tape on the top portion of plexi-

HOWEVER, I am not a fan of these type of open-face helmets. I much rather prefer the convertible (e.g. Schubert that I've transitioned to)

I like my face, particularly my teeth. I spent a lot of time with braces, brushing and flossing. No desire to have people staring at a reconstructed chin and ignoring my pearly whites.
Don't look up while at speed... that visor might catch the wind and rip your head clean off (kidding.. at least partly)

What a weird looking face shield.
No GC on Cyclegear, even though it is the same company?

Great for restaurant dining and just daily social distancing. However, the shield could be larger. I'm thinking buffet certified.

Arai helmets are designed to last 5 years after their manufactured date. After that, they suggest replacement as the adhesive can create tiny gaps that can reduce or remove the effectiveness of the helmet in an accident.

Many helmets on clearance are already through a few of those years!!!

I love Arai, personally, and have had 4 of their helmets (Corsair v and Corsair x). They don't do budget helmets, but do ask for the seller to check the manufacture date. do not buy if you can't get that date. You might pay 50% for a helmet with 20% life left.

I think this is the same for just about all motorcycle helmet brands, btw.

Good point. These are reputable sellers and I'm sure they will provide info requested. Also Revzilla has live chat option where you can ask any questions. I used it and it was very good.

I don't know if I'd want my passenger wearing this helmet. My beheading could take place during hard braking.
I'm a Shoei head for sure. I also don't like the way some Arai shield attach. PIA compared to Shoei. Just my experience.

Arai makes good stuff, but I would advise against an open face helmet.

35% of impacts on a crash are on the lower part of the front face below the face shield, 11% are on the face shield, and 18% are on the upper forehead. Just google motorcycle helmet impact locations.

Ride safe.

That's a rip-off for a useless helmet that doesn't protect a significant portion of your face, which is involved in >30% of accidents.

I wouldn't wear this if it were free

This is crap - If your helmet is stored in a climate controlled environment the rate of degradation is drastically different than a helmet that is actively being used/temperature cycled/sweated in/etc.

The actual crash absorption material on these is EPS. EPS degradation is extremely slow unless introduced to foreign substances (i.e. sweat). If you are tossing out a perfectly good helmet at 5 years then you must have deeper pockets than I.
