Could make more of a difference if you were to drive an external 1440p or so panel.
Or if it was not purely for games and you were to use it for some GPGPU stuff, e.g. GPU accelerated rendering/video editing etc. YMMV.
Not sure it would be wise to make that leap backward from a higher end laptop, even if it is a couple years old. Anyone else made the switch and thankful for it? I think I'd prefer more M.2 slots, and 4 slots for memory, as I use my laptop with VMware clients running in the background, but they might make a different model. Any other potential contenders outside of MSI, ASUS, Dell for a high quality gaming laptop with at least a 17" screen?

Happy eluk owner here. I haven't had any probs with mine and have hauled it to classes and travel for years. I love that everything is stock and basic windows 10 updates take care of everything from a fresh windows install.
I trust Clevo design because it's back to basics with them and their units are used basically by every non manufacture reseller. Had the highest end Asus laptop a while back and the newest dell XPS. Problems galore with both of them even though they cost more. It's anecdotal but that's my existence.
