Good for people who want to spec out their own memory and storage. Now this is an RTX 2080 Max-Q, so while you will get less performance it should still beat out a full 2070 and be on par with an RTX 2070 Super laptop.

I have 2 m.2, sata drive and 16gb laying around. This will complete the build.

Just get one with a 2070,. The 2080 Max will get about 2-5 fps increase in most games if you have the laptop spec'd out. That is insignificant and wouldn't even be noticeable by most on a small laptop screen.

I would agree that for 1080p output (build-in screen) the 2080 doesn't make much of a sense.
Could make more of a difference if you were to drive an external 1440p or so panel.

Or if it was not purely for games and you were to use it for some GPGPU stuff, e.g. GPU accelerated rendering/video editing etc. YMMV.

Ugh so temped to try something other than MSI or ASUS, but not sure I want to take that leap. I'm using an MSI GT72VR and my prior laptop was a similar case.. They have design flaws with the power connector that have existed forever, and don't make any attempt to fix, an just sick of the overpriced crap they spin out and then neglect to update. Also have an MSI AIO high end unit (from back in 2015 - But still functions great for even Fortnite on Epic) that has a camera that never worked with Windows 10 (no working driver available).

Not sure it would be wise to make that leap backward from a higher end laptop, even if it is a couple years old. Anyone else made the switch and thankful for it? I think I'd prefer more M.2 slots, and 4 slots for memory, as I use my laptop with VMware clients running in the background, but they might make a different model. Any other potential contenders outside of MSI, ASUS, Dell for a high quality gaming laptop with at least a 17" screen?

Happy eluk owner here. I haven't had any probs with mine and have hauled it to classes and travel for years. I love that everything is stock and basic windows 10 updates take care of everything from a fresh windows install.
I trust Clevo design because it's back to basics with them and their units are used basically by every non manufacture reseller. Had the highest end Asus laptop a while back and the newest dell XPS. Problems galore with both of them even though they cost more. It's anecdotal but that's my existence.

Gigabyte/Aorus? I'm shopping for one too. I wish there was somewhere I could go try out the Aorus - I'm curious how I'd like the Omron mechanical switches used on the keyboard.

Why oh why doesn't this thing have TB3? It'd be darn near perfect if it did!
