Ok, provide example where you are better off for $200 including phone and 6 month service.
That's not this deal though, no service included. The closest to that was the original Red Pocket deal or the Visible deal.

As someone pointed out, those have their issues. I'm still fuming (or am annoyed anyway) that someone ordered the same phone as me three hours later and has it in hand while I have nothing.

The point is: if you just want the phone, not the service this is ok. You end up paying quite a bit all in (not to mention the 6 months of waiting). Visible will be cheaper and has a shorter required unlock period. You weigh what's best for you, I'm not your FA. I'm just giving my 2 cents based on my needs and considerations, which will hopefully help one other person at least.

How would they know how long you've been with the other carrier?
they call with your phone number and pin and act like they are you. They ask how long the account has been opened for.

Also, I read in a previous thread that metro now requires a license to check for some type of verification.

Interesting...definitely doesn't sound legal for them to pretend to be you.

You will be disappointed when you see the screen size in person. I thought my Galaxy S10e was too small.lol
It's EXACTLY like the iPhone 8. There are no surprises here. If you have seen an iPhone 8, you know exactly what this phone looks like. Exact same size.

Where on Earth are you coming up with you're getting 6 months service and the phone for $200?
Fat fingers on a small screen. Fixed

they may force you to pay 6 months fees upfront
Is that imaginary case of yours or you went to store and someone told you it was a requirement? It would be just plain stupid and against any terms I read on their website.

Year ago when I went there they ask for your information and call your existing carrier. If you refuse they refuse to give you the deal. Might vary from location to location but in my case corporate one closest to me is a craphole that I wouldn't even walk in a hazmat suit.

Hence their slogan: MetroByT-Moble: May the six-month force be with you

So I'm already on a metro family plan under someone else's name. I haven't had my own metro account in like 4 years. Could I go start a plan, get this iPhone, cancel the plan right after, and put it on my family plan? Also, could I port from a new visible number? Thanks to the Slickdeals warrior that answers 😎

I went to the local store and, after 15 mins of the attendant fiddling with her computer, none of my phones "qualified." Then, she said that she could do the $199 promotion in one of them. As I had Verizon, supposedly the network with the best coverage in my area and their data service was terrible anyway, I switched. $200-off an unlocked phone, same service, a bit cheaper.

Although some of these deals may be unattractive for families, and also a pain, porting, unlocking, etc., one cannot add the cost of the service to the actual cost of the device. If you have a single line and comparable service, you may get either $200 or $300 (I doubt) discount on a new phone.

Yes, it's like an iPhone 8, but new, faster, flawless. People taught is was a good deal for $700 2.5 years ago.

Is there a way to get in on this deal with already being a Metro by T-Mobile user?

Great deal if you need the service and are considering a switch. Cheapest plan for one user is $30/mo (2gb only) or $30/mo for four users with Amazon Prime, 15gb hotspot data, and 100gb Google drive space. The latter is not a bad deal. You have a $15 per line activation fee and presumably $5 a month in taxes/fees. That means that for one phone (unlocked), you need to spend $100+15+30+180 and the full retail price sales tax. At that price, you are pretty close to or more expensive than other deals (I'm thinking the Red Pocket, Visible, and Wal-Mart).

For 4 phones (max), you are looking a little better but not by too much (cost per phone drops by $22.50 assuming the fees are only $5 cumulatively for all four phones).
No monthly taxes with metro.
