Install the free SideQuest application on your PC, and setup the Quest for developer mode. This worked for me - https://sidequestvr.com/setup-howto . If your PC does not recognize the Quest, use another USB-C cable. The stock cable did not work, so I had to use my phone's cable.
Install the free Virtual Desktop companion app, from SideQuest, onto your Oculus Quest - https://sidequestvr.com/app/16/virtual-desktop. This won't work unless you've already done #1 - bought & installed the Virtual Desktop app from the Oculus Store.

Currently Oculus does not allow this function to work by default through the Oculus the store.
1) Install virtual desktop on your quest
2)Go to https://sidequestvr.com/
3) So the installation and APK process
4)Find virtual desktop in the applications tab and install
5) open the virtual desktop streamer on your PC and then open virtual desktop on the quest
Keep in mind though that in my experience using the Oculus link is a higher fidelity experience but you are tethered by your wire. you also run the game at 1440p with the link cable with no latency. When using virtual desktop, it scales the resolution down to 1080p and sometimes the virtual desktop cannot keep up with how fast you move even with high bandwidth. I've seen hiccups with virtual desktop playing Half-Life Alex when I have a gigabit Ethernet connection and the strongest Wi-Fi single possible. it can make you naucious from time to time because of bad latency.

I have been blown away with virtual desktop. I've been plying Alyx completely untethered and it's a game changer. I never thought wired vr was annoying, and played for years on the vive, but after playing with VD, I get annoyed even having to charge my quest while I'm playing now. Completely wireless makes a huge difference even if the quality isn't quite as good as a wired headset.
