If this is the same as the Chicago electric dual action, it's good enough for professional use. Not sure about the Ryobi sorry.

The Ryobi is a buffer and this is a dual action polisher. The buffer is just good for applying and removing wax. The polisher can do that plus actually polish your car. Your would use if for paint correction and high gloss.

The Bauer is the new version of the Chicago Electric. They are basically identical aside from some minor part variances.

Is this a better value than the DeWalt DCM848B?

Well, you could buy 5 of these for the cost of one of those. If I were shopping in that price range ($250+) there would probably be other models I would be looking at. I do feel that I would still buy a corded unit vs a cordless though. Just my 2 cents.

I wouldn't go as far to say they are identical. The Chicago ones sell for a bit more on eBay because they are made better. Including epoxy coated components.

The 64529 model of the Bauer (vs the 64528) is about as good as the Chicago. I think for anyone wanting a super budget polisher, the differences are negligible.

Are these forced rotation when pressure is applied or does it stop?

Chicago v. Bauer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6nDv9seY6Q
One of the commentators said the Chicago he is comparing is old, the later models are closer to the Bauer....Even then I found the differences to be minor (other than him moronically using the stock backing plates).

I doubt the tiny differences (if they even exist with the later Chicago models) will matter.

Agreed. This is a stupid debate for a $50 tool that performs similar to $100+ tools from other brands. This is a steal, this DA buffer WILL give great results if the person using it knows what they are doing

Good tips here:

Not sure on that. I don't think it would stop all the way. I have heard that it is possible to bog one of these down but that they are more powerful than the Griot's base model.

Thank you for the explanation. I need one to polish the scratches off my gf's car, so the Bauer sounds like the way to go.

No problem, polishing out scratches and restoring shine are exactly what this will do. Just understand that there are a few other items that you will need to get such as a replcement backing plate (the one that comes with it sucks) and polishing pads.

There are a lot of YT videos showing exactly what to do with this exact polisher.
