Verizon is offering customers with existing non-committed 100/100 plan a free upgrade to 200/200 plan for the same monthly cost of $39.99 without additional commitments.

To receive this free upgrade, login to MyVerizon dashboard here [verizon.com]. Then click "Order Now" under the black "mix & match on Fios" tile. Click your existing 100/100 speed, then click "More Speeds" and select 200/200 for a month cost of $39.99.

Complete the order and you'll now have double the speed for "free".

Please note that if your G1100 or G3100 router is connected to the ONT via COAX, your order will not be processed unless a technician visits your location to switch it over to Ethernet. COAX on the ONT only supports speeds up to 100/100 and anything faster will require the router to be connected directly into the Ethernet port on the ONT.

I'm currently paying $34.99 per month for the 100/100 plan as I have 8 months left in my 2-year contract. To upgrade to the 200/200 plan would be $39.99 which says no term agreement. Does this mean my rate can go up at any time?

Trying to figure out if I should do this free upgrade or if it's not worth the hassle. I have a newer ONT that has an ethernet port, but I live in a condo and don't want to deal with fishing an ethernet cable up through the wall, across about 35 feet, and back down to the room where my router is. Read up a little on MoCA since I'm brand new to this (username checks out), so is this what I would need to do?

1. Get a MoCA adapter for my ONT box (in an access panel in my closet), run a short ethernet cable from the ONT to the MoCA adapter.
2. Get a MoCA POE filter to place between the adapter and my existing coax.
3. I have a G1100 router, which seems to support MoCA 2.0, so does that mean I can just add a POE filter to the existing coax line going to the G1100 and it'll be good to go (of course after upgrading and asking them to switch over from coax to ethernet)?

Sorry if I have things completely wrong here...any help would be appreciated.

Yes it does. They can increase price whenever they want. Do you currently have the connections discount? Is that how you have the price $34.99? If so, you can still do that with the 200/200.

Just called up and canceled my TV service from what was previously a triple play package. I ported out the home phone service a few days ago and it completed this morning. I reduced my Gigabit internet to 200/200 for $49.99 but I'm told once I sign up for autopay it will drop to $39.99. Apparently I had some kind of discount on the quantum wireless router, which has now gone away, so my monthly rental will be increasing from $10 to $12. I'll have to look into that...anyone recommend a good MOCA enabled wireless router? All in all it's a great feeling to go cable TV free. My bill is dropping from $174/month to $53 or so after tax.

Yes. However, they will give you some advanced notice.

I had an account set to expire in June. Upgrading to 200/200 took away the expiration and now I'm under no term agreement. But this means that I'll most certainly not have to deal with cancel/renew in June.

As for the required changes to my ONT, it offered me only one date for them to make the change, which is 1 December 2020. So until then, my change won't have any change in my speeds.

Interesting.... so you were able to upgrade even though you require an ONT upgrade? That must be a change in policy from a few years ago. I was upgrading my service from 50 to 100 and required an upgrade from the BPON to the GPON and they absolutely refused to do anything until that ONT was upgraded. I told them I didn't care if I was under speed for the 8 or so days before they could come out and they just flat out refused.

I have Optimum and there is no other provider in my area.
Just wondering if FIOs is good service.
We run 2 TVs, 5 laptops and a few iPads and phones on WiFi.
Any advise would be helpful to decide?

Decide what? I thought you just said there is no other provider in your area?

Yup. The upgrade went through with no issue. My account now shows at 200/200, although, of course, I am only getting 100/100 for now.

Very interesting.... They definitely wouldn't let me do that a few years ago. I guess they realized it was a dumb ass rule. If I tell them I'm cool with the slower speed for a bit, they never should have cared!

My service seems to be much worse after doing this upgrade. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Worse in what way? Lower speeds, service outage?

I bought a used verizon quantum router on eBay for ~$60. Renting is always the worse deal.
