BUT this is a very old design (from a company that HAS been around a long time

I've had this exact model for three years. I use it when we travel, on average once a month. It has retained battery life, not gotten hot, and been a great tool. I also paid 18 for it on sale.
I'm aware there are newer models that charge faster with all sorts of fancy add-ons but the reality is this is just a battery that charges other batteries. It just works.

Yes, old version does not mean bad quality. Sometimes even though old version, it still work well. Such as Anker or some other known brands, many models are also very old, but still use well too. But as what We concern now, new models/designs, even not so sure if they have very good quality, but it's still very worthy to buy. As for tech or electronic products, as time goes by, the quality will improve better and better, but cost will go down much, and new models will get more smart function and be more convenient to use too. To buy new models especially when deals is really so great, yeah!!.
