How much better is the barrel grip? What are the use cases for it? I have a practically new standard version.
Very helpful when coping trim materials i.e., crown molding, picture molding, shoe & base moldings. I find it useful if your cutting a lot of bends or curves, almost using like a scroll saw.
I think i'll wait for the jig saw xr (334B) to go on sale. Don't need that many jigs...this does seem like a decent deal. That model (334B) is on sale right now at grainger with a free batt (5.0) and charger but price is still too high IMO.
be prepared for Focus Camera nonsense. I bought this the last time it popped up and they sent me a Dynatrap mosquito trap. Had to return as 'RMA' and still haven't received my jigsaw.
Good deal if you already have a compatible battery.
I've not used a barrel grip saw myself, but I can see where it would offer better control, especially since it allows you to use your arm to control a jumping saw (and maybe both hands for detail work) instead of just your wrist.
If you already have a nice, nearly new jigsaw that you're happy with, I wouldn't think to jump on this. But if you have the batteries that fit it already and need a jigsaw, sure. The design looks like will get into tighter spaces than a traditional jigsaw, like if you're doing work under sinks, etc. so that's something to consider if you don't have an oscillating tool for that sort of work.
For those not aware of barrel grip and why they're likely to completely replace D-grip is because it gives the user the ability for their hands to be closer to the surface (by A LOT compared to older models) thus having a much more accurate cut. They're also able to do upside down cuts better and if you want to make a scroll saw jig, this design makes it much easier.. you can 3D print + CNC your own scroll saw pretty easy to get a nice slide in, slide out setup where you clamp that bad boy down!
It's also insanely balanced with the battery in so yeah I think this is an excellent deal!
