We're on our second of these umbrellas in 12 years, bought after the top of the first one failed after 10 years due to high winds, rust, and extensive use.
This thing is a beast at the beach and does great in high winds, but mostly because we use the guylines that support it. You really need to set it up right.
It fit my family of five under it when later back until my kids hit puberty. Now we need to stand it up to all fit.
I've regularly had other people at the beach come up and ask where I got it because they see how quick it is to set up and put down, even with the guylines.
In another five or six years I expect this one to fail and I'll get another one, unless something better comes along.
Hope this helps.
On the plus side, you only have to use it once for it to be worth the money compared to renting at the beach!

Our family uses an xl regularly. They are great and the reality is somewhere between the positive and negative reviews above. We are on our 3rd one. I have had to replace them about every two years. That's with maybe 2-3 weeks of use a year.
You can bend the pole if you get too aggressive trying to get it deep in the sand. Really bad winds will mess it up too but it can handle more than untethered umbrellas. The zippers rust after some time.
That said - they are really fast and work really well most of the time. They also provide decent privacy if you need it- blocking 3 sides. I would say the XL can handle two adults and two small children with small chairs.
