I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question, but is a Costco membership required to make purchases from Costco?

according to many online reviews 2020 MacBook Air has a sloppy heat dissipation design and it does get "warm" easily. However, if you are not a multi tasking demanding user that runs high performance programs at once: I am talking about Chrome 4K YouTube, Photoshop 2D rendering or 3D editing, audio remixing etc at least Two heavy programs at the same time, you will be fine.

I may jump on this. $50 cheaper than education pricing and Discover has 5% back. Not a smoking hot deal by any means, but I don't think you ever get amazing deals on Macs anyways.

You can get bestbuy price match it in case you don't have costco membership.

If you are considering the i5, you should consider 16gb RAM as well, especially since you can't upgrade the memory later

The 16" 16gb ram 1tb model is also $200 off I'm thinking of going for that one.

These overheat and slowdown. It's well documented. I would recommend base MBP if you have education pricing.
