Wow, if the XTs were $139.99 before coupon that's a great deal even better than the original. Are you sure it was the XT combo and not the regular though? The regular combo is listed at $139.99. The XT is $159.99.

If you can afford the $139-10% off for the slx reel and rod, it would make for an awesome beginner setup. If not, go to bass pro, academy or dicks and get abu Garcia combo for $100 or less. If you're a real beginner, do some research to see if a bait-casting reel or spinning reel would be most suitable for you.

I did actually end up getting it. Liking it a lot, but still have to get used to a baitcaster. Soooo many bird's nests, lol
