10 bucks isnt for the router, its not even for the modem - its for the Fiber to ethernet converter box that you cannot buy. Thats why even if you have your own compatible modem/router they can still charge you the $10.
AT&T for a moment in time had a no equipment fee than they re-added it recently. From time to time they have a promotion of no equipment fee, the last one was a couple of months ago.
It all evens out i guess. I remember a few months back you had to pay extra for unlimited data unless you bundled with TV.
Existing AT&T customer here in the Raleigh, NC area. We've been with AT&T for about 5 years now. Have an ancient Internet 45 + Uverse TV300 package for ~ $175/month, I'm embarassed to admit.
After reading this thread, I logged into my AT&T account. In the profile menu (upper right corner of the web browser), I had a number of alerts, which included offers. One offer was the 1GB Internet for $59.99/month.
I engaged in a chat to find out specfics. As a two-career family working from home, we cannot have a break in Internet service. The key question: would I need different residential equipment (mine has been roughly the same since 2016)? I knew from my subdivision forums that we have AT&T 1GB in the neighborhood already. Per AT&T, my hardware didn't need to be upgraded - just a "flip of the switch" on their end.
So my plan was to gather info and call the retention dept, to see what I could get. But, in a chat session, I was offered 1GB Internet for $39.99/mo for 12 mos. Then, it goes up for $59.99. They processed my change request in chat. Said it could take up to an hour for me to see the advantages. I was watching cable during this time and my TV glitched (and I got the disconnected screen) for about a minute.
Now (about ~20-30 mins in), I am getting about 100Mbps down right now. We'll see.
But, I'm about to try youtube TV and finally cut the cord. Once our 12 month promo is over, we'll still be saving ~$60-70/month than what we've been paying.
I recieved an email from ATT that I get HBO Max for free with my 1gig Internet. This promo looks too be good for existing and new customers. If you are unsure contact ATT. I was able login to HBO MAX App using my ATT credentials.
Woohoo to adding another streaming platform to my list.
if you hadn't put your comment, I wouldn't have known I have this too! I didn't get an email, but I was kinda bummed I had signed up for att a few weeks ago and missed out on this and then saw your comment- checked, I get it too!
Existing AT&T Fiber customer in San Jose, CA. Had Internet 50 for $60 - 30 discount + Basic cable to remove the 1TB data cap. Bill came out to $63 (Was ~$57 when we signed up years ago, and has crept up to $63 due to fees and taxes increases on the basic cable).
Called and the regular customer rep was able to switch me to Internet 1000 and removed the Basic cable (since Internet 1000 includes unlimited data). No equipment rental fee either since I am an existing customer (they charge a rental fee to new customers now). My bill now comes out to $49.99 for the next year and then ongoing for $69.99 after that. Free HBO Max for the next year.
Painless. Only took 15 minutes. Immediately saw 600Mbps download 60 Mbps upload on speedtest.net. Hopefully the speed restriction on the upload speed comes off soon.
Thanks for the deal! I've been an AT&T Internet customer since 2006 (DSL back then). I called AT&T to ask if I could upgrade my fiber optic plan from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps and mentioned this promo. The CSR said yes and I tested it that my speed had indeed been upgraded and no price increase. That's great, not that 100 Mbps was too slow.
She confirmed that HBO Max is part of the deal with the 1 Gbps plan. However, when I log into hbomax.com and sign in with my AT&T account, it says:

It looks like your AT&T subscription does not include HBO Max. If you believe you have received this message in error, please contact your provider.
I guess I'll have to call them back up to see what's up.
Do they enforce data caps? Anything under a TB should be a crime. Games are 100gb+ each now, and 4K streaming will eat up that data like crazy.
I forgot to ask the CSR about the data cap. But when I had the 100 Mbps plan, the data cap was 1 TB/mo. So I would imagine if there is a cap for 1 Gbps, it's greater than 1 TB/mo.

Just called as an existing user and at the prompt asked for loyalty department, was on hold for 2 minutes and with the rep for less than 10. Immediately switched me over to the new pricing from my previous $90 a month.
Thanks. That's what I did too. When asked at the prompt I said "loyalty department". Connected in 1 minute or less and was on the phone for 5 minutes. I was currently paying $105 so I am saving almost half.
I called yesterday, I was paying 100 a month for 1 gig up and down. Spoke to a rep, who lowered my bill to 69.99, and then added a 20 waiver to my bill for 12 months making it only 49.99. HBO Max Included of course. Pretty sweet that my bill will automatically be lower even after the 12 month promotion. Thanks for this!
Are you still within a 12 month contract?
I am only 4 months into my contract, currently paying a promo price of $80 a month. Called about getting the $49.99 rate but they said they can't do it since I'm already "on a promo price", and if I wanted to cancel there would be an ETF fee of $120

I installed yesterday, have the fiber to ethernet installed before so I don't need it. They still charge $10/month and they didn't send the converter, just the router. So it IS for the router. Use code SPRING25 for additional $25 gift card.
