10 bucks isnt for the router, its not even for the modem - its for the Fiber to ethernet converter box that you cannot buy. Thats why even if you have your own compatible modem/router they can still charge you the $10.

It's affixed to your house, wired directly into fiber optic cable from the street and the only thing it's good for is tying into AT&T's fiber network. Unless you're an electrician or a cable tech, odds are against you being able to remove it yourself and the labor costs for them to come out and remove it from your home wouldn't be efficient.

They charge you for use of it while you're a fiber internet customer. If you drop service, it's a useless box attached to your house (until/unless you or someone who buys your house after you signs back up). There's no market for used AT&T ONTs because nobody else uses them but AT&T, and they don't let you "bring your own".

ymmv. i have to disagree. case by case basis. Thankfully datacaps have been halted currently by comcast and others or i would be paying extra fees each month during this pandemic.

I called about this yesterday and after 28 mins with the first person, was transferred to another person (customer retention?). He approved $49.99/mth including router. I already have att & 1gb. Was paying $80 plus taxes.
