On wired I am running cable out of router to a TP Link switch and getting consistent 900+. The only cable coming out of ATT box is going to WAN port on the router. Don't understand why I am getting 150 on wifi when same router was putting out 230 plus on spectrum. I did a lot of reading online yesterday on this issue and it seems to be very common problem with ATT network.
So if you are getting 900 coming out of the TP Link Switch. That means the ATT box is pushing out 900 on it's end. So there is no problem with the ATT box. If there was, you couldn't get 900 going in. Maybe your wireless router can't handle the 900 speed coming in and so it could have an issue with the software pushing out the higher speed. If you were on say 100 speed on Comcast, maybe your router could handle that 100 coming in easily. I'm not a expert buy any means. However if you have 900 coming into the TP Link Switch and 900 coming out on ethernet, the ATT box is not where the slowdown is coming from. It's further down the chain. Try running wifi from the ATT box. Turn it back on and see what wifi speeds you get off the wifi from the ATT box. If you are getting 300-400, you know for sure it's your old wireless router's fault.

But you would have to deal with AT&T. They are the equivalent of Samsung in appliances...

I had some good luck changing the channel for 5Ghz on my router and now the speed went up from 150 to 350. I downloaded Netgear Analytic app which shows what's the best channel available. First I tried a DFS channel which gave me almost 500 down, but since I live close to an executive airport my 5Ghz dropped soon after it detected a radar. After trying different non DFS channels i found one with 350 down. I guess that's the best I am going to get, so I am quite content with this setup. Thanks for the help.

Same channel as before. I haven't changed any settings on my router besides ip. Had to change router to 10.0.x.x from 192.168.x.x since ATT box in on 192.168.x.x network.
AT&T Likes to use 192.168.1.254 for their Gateway IP address. Ideally you would just put the gateway into bridge mode and have the gateway be just a "plane modem" BUT good luck doing that with crappy AT&T equipment! If you were to truly get the gateway into bridge mode, you should be passing your outside (WAN) IP address like 75.181.101.89 to your personal router and have your personal router "dish" out local IPs to your devices like in the range 192.168.1.10 - 192.168.1.245. Sounds like your setup is "double routing" which is a No No in networking and could be a probable cause for decrease in speed.

Fixed my dual DHCP problem. Tech put my switch before my router. Cleaned up my enclosure so it's Gateway > Router > Switch and everything is good now with the IP passthrough. The techs basically know nothing about networking. They just know how to run the line into your house and activate.

My house is wired for ethernet and from what it seems, the installers like to put the att modem in the basement due to the proximity to the white box.

My orbi mesh router is only getting 100mbps down/up when connected to att gateway - connected via ethernet from basement to another room and the router is in AP mode.

I've tried bandwidth test on the same port as my orbi using my old laptop, with a different ethernet chord and got ~250s down/up.

Are people that getting reductions on their bills from like $90+ signed up to unlimited data? I noticed the $49.99 deal seems to have a 1TB cap. With streaming, I think we blow through that. So are you getting a discount or a lower tier plan as an adjustment?

Wait, what? Can you explain this issue? Because I had fiber installed a while back and sites constantly take a while to load (especially Google searches) because they can't resolve properly. Could this be the same issue?

Yes you are correct. There is no way to avoid double NAT with current ATT box. I see both ips when I do a traceroute. But it hasn't affected my speeds at the router. Getting 900 and 400 on wired and wifi respectively. I had to do some channel tweaking on my router to fix the low speed issue.

You need to leave you router in router mode and use IP passthrough on ATT box. This would assign new network address to you router and you would have to redo any static ips and port forwarding you had configured previously.

Some users did extra steps of enabling cascade router, but I didn't do it and setup is still working for me.

I am glad you got it figured out. For sure 5GHz is the faster channel because it has less interference. 2.4 GHz is what microwaves run on. With Wifi 6e expected to come out at the end of year, if you have a wifi 6e device like on say the new Iphone 12 that has the 6e antenna in if Apple puts that in that comes out at the end of the year, you will probably get 900 speeds on wireless. Wifi 6e is going to open up the 6GHz channel so even less interference with things you already own. That might be a worthy upgrade at the end of the year for a new wireless router. That is what I am waiting on before I upgrade my Netgear Orbi. Wifi 6 is currently out and has been out for 1.5 yrs roughly. The new Iphone 11 has built in Wifi 6 antenna's so it can work well with a Wifi 6 antenna. Here are some results from a Wifi 6 wireless speeds. You can see, you can now really get 900 or close to 900 speeds with a better wireless router. You can read more about Wifi 6 routers here https://dongknows.com/best-wi-fi-6-routers/ . You have 1000 speed, now to take advantage of it on wifi, you might too soon upgrade to an AX router like me. With Wifi 6e around the corner, I might as wait and have that extra 6 mghz channel.
