This is the cheaper knife made from stamped out steel. Not a great price for this. If you are looking for the best quality, always go for the FORGED blades!

Agreed. It is good that this one is made in Germany, but you can get a Henckels forged blade for $65 that's made in Spain from German steel. The German-made forged blades are considerably more expensive.

If you're going cheap, spend less on a stamped blade that you'll eventually replace with a forged one. If your budget allows, spend more on a forged one. I've had my Henckels forged chef's knife for over 25 years now, and it's still going strong (it was their basic line at the time, not a premium knife).

Considering that it is stamped blade, is it worth the price difference compared to the much cheaper ($30) Victorinox Fibrox knife?

Can someone recommend a higher quality knife at a moderate price point?

If you don't mind a shorter knife, this 6 inch extra wide Henckels Pro is a pretty good deal for $70. It is forged and it has half bolster which I really like because it is much easier to sharpen and to use the whole length of the knife. I also like the extra wide feature to scoop more chopped food. https://www.cutleryandmore.com/zw...fe-p138039

Sweet! I need a santoku, and I'm currently using that same chef's knife at the in-law's beach house. I think I just found my birthday present! It's next month, but that's ok. Big Grin
