Interesting deal. Free EM1X, lol.
May be great for a Pro wildlife shooter...
I'd like to sell the parts and end up with a free 7-14, but prolly still too much.
Can someone explain to me what would make these cost nearly 10k at regular price? I'm just getting in to photography as a hobby so I don't know a ton yet. These are by far the most expensive ive seen yet.

MFT has inherent flaw due to the sensor is too small (a quarter of the Full Frame, or about half of the APS-C systems). this often result in poor low light performance compare to FF and APS-C. please don't think low light only exist at night, low light often includes shooting picture at home. MFT's low light performance is about 2 stops worse than FF, and 1 stop worse than APS-C.
as such, MFT system will require fast lens to help resolve this issue. ideally you would need a comparable lens thats 2 stop faster. and here is the problem: good fast lens are expensive. this applies to all cameras system, it is just particularly more important for MFT.
for example. a regular olympus 40-150 F4.0-5.6 lens is 99 dollar all day everyday, an olympus 40-150 F2.8 (about 1 to 2 stop faster depend on focal length) is 1500 dollar. this is because aperture is a function of the focal length and diameter of the iris. larger aperture (faster lens) require much larger openings, meaning much more glass, and much better glass.
the same goes for 300 mm telephoto. you can easily get a Olympus 75-300 F4.8-6.7 for under 400 dollars, but the moment you want that large aperture, you will be paying 3k for that.
you are still getting a bargain compared to full frame. a 600 mm F4 cannon EF lens be 4 times as large, wieght 4 time more and cost 4 times as much (priced at 13k). of course it also gathered 4 times more light on the FF body but you got the idea here.
that said, i think the entire pro series lens aren't making too much sense for MFT (i have the entire collection of olympus MFT premium prime lens). MFT system itself is a compromise. it is small enough, cheap enough, and light enough for everyone to pick up and have fun. the pro lens cost arm and leg, they are as large, and weight as much as their full frame counter parts and you still won't be able to overcome the inherent flaw of a smaller sensor. if i have to pick up a lens that is over 500g in weight, i might as well just use my cannon full frame to get the better picture.
the same goes for E-M1X. it is as large as many full frame camera and cost about the same, but not as capable. so i am not sure why olympus even put up something like it. the fact is very few people are actually buying E-M1x when you can get sony A7 iii / iv or nikon Z7 or cannon EOS R for about the same price

This is pro level weather sealed gear with big apertures. Yes even though this camera is a smaller sensor (MFT) plenty of pros use olympus particularly for the excellent lenses and image stabilization. But for a beginner you might want to save $5,000 and start off with an Em10 mk ii paired with a cheaper lens.

Get a cheap Nikon or Canon DSLR, shot a lot of photos and learn. The used lenses for Nikon or Canon DSLR are relatively cheap. Get some primes (35mm, 50mm, etc.) There's some hand holding with these cameras but you'll learn quicker than say a Sony ILC that does the majority of stuff for you. Start in Aperture Priority Mode and work to Manual mode. Your first few thousand photos won't be very good but your skills will quickly improve.
Based on sensor size, equalivent Full frame lens are: 14-24mm f/5.6, 80-300 f/5.6, and 600mm f/8. You could get a Z7 kit($3400), 14-30 f/4($1100), 200-500 f/5.6($1257) with this money. Better yet get a 24-70mm f/4 for free for $5750
Its the fact don't fight it. Full frame is heavier but if you care about quality, can't go wrong with 45.7mp
