Thanks OP! I was eyeing this last week at $30 and almost pulled the trigger. I have a similar/older version of this Rosewill enclosure that's USB 2.0 - this is a nice upgrade to USB 3.0. Note that it has an esata connection as well. Great find!

Do we know what chipset this uses?

I've had good experiences with various asmedia ones, but poor with jmicro.

I got this last December for $30-something. Great deal for $24! It runs quiet and I like how it puts the hdd to sleep when I'm not using it (and only takes a few seconds to wake up). I really like the fan, too.

says supports 6TB, so you might be able to use a 14TB HDD.

now you can back up your porn collection to a safe place and take it with you.

This is exactly what I was thinking. A hard drive inside a computer would undoubtedly get hotter than any external one. Hard drives barely produce any heat and are made to withstand being in close proximity to components that actually get hot like processors and graphics cards.

Good point. I've never needed a fan for HDD unless it was inside of my rig.

First its "is it shuckable?"

Now it's "can I enclose/de-shuck into this?"

We can't make up our minds lol. But in all seriousness, I trust Vantec the most for their enclosures. I have new Nexstars; one for my BD Burner, another for an ancient (80gig?) hard drive. But have run for many years. The HD enclosure for over 12 yrs.

Movie trailer voice: in a world where people may need an internal drive when they only have an external, or an external when they only have an internal, starcaptor find himself a lone voice among the cosmos...

"First you want to take the drive out, then you want to put it back in? THIS IS MADNESS!!!"

Will our hero find answers, or will he remain.... Perpetually Perturbed!?
