Different appearance, but some notable ones are:

Increased laptop, tablet, and document capacity - 20L now fits up to 15" laptops

Adjustable height laptop sleeve

New UltraZip external zippers, vastly more durable than conventional zips

New external carry straps with improved Cord Hook connectors and more tie-down points

Better ergonomics (hooks are easier to handle and straps are better)

People also prefer the look of V1 better

I've been using this backpack for over 2 years now and it's been pretty awesome. It can be uncomfortable when fully loaded (which bag isn't?) and the extra support straps are kind of annoying. It's not perfect, but it has been the best for me.

Very happy with my V2 version. Certainly a well-made product. If you happen to prefer the style of the V1, then don't miss this deal. Plus there's a lifetime warranty on the craftsmanship.

What makes these backpacks so special considering the higher price tag? I would assume they are comparable to like tumi?

Broadly speaking, better overall design and more thought put into real world usability for photographers. The brand is positioned as premium, so you're definitely paying an up-charge at MSRP. But they make good stuff.

It's a higher quality product than most of LowePro/Tamrac offerings. Their peers in the photo bag space are Think Tank Photo, (some of) Tenba, maybe ONA.

Not much I could add here without sounding like a complete shill. I've had this bag since its launch and it is all I ever use, I remember seeing that there was a 45 minute YouTube video on all its features and I thought that was ridiculous but even as a hobbyist photographers I now use pretty much all of them. The price back then was 3x this one and I'd gladly pay that again but mine is still going strong to this day even though I've taken it all over the world (300+ flights and counting).
There are countless cheaper alternatives that would suit most people, this is definitely a "premium" option but if you can afford it and you use other peak design gear you'll love it, though if you do, you probably already have a bag of theirs I guess.

I have both PD v1 and Lowepro Protactic 350.
-U can accommodate more gears on LowePro and better protection compared to PD. Lowepro has hard shell.
-PD wins on ease of use. U can insert and remove camera quicker on PD compared to Lowepro. Has pockets to insert water bottles/tripod, Lowepro doesn't .

Are you kidding me? I have 4 Lowepro bags LOADED that are AMAZING! While PeakDesign makes decent products don't belittle LowePro until you've used them for a period of time.

This bag is good, but not great for heavy use l, I ended up returning it for a black ember forge which has been fantastic for the last two months. The backpack straps are very comfortable, the padding is great and there's tons of room and organization. My bag is searched daily at work and the security guys are always amazed at what I have in there and how well it's organized. However for camera equipment I recommend a purpose built bag like a lowepro I forget which bag I have but it is excellent.

had v1 for about 2 years. this is my personal opinions.

does not fit my older 15" mac (main negative) i have to take a 2nd bag for laptop Frown / the shoulder straps aren't comfortable for long period wear / the zippers are kinda stiff/tight.
