Or you could buy these at the super market and get 150% instead of ~110% return with reserve cards. And yes we know it's not as good a return as transferring to miles but some people don't like to travel even before the virus.

For limited time, you get 5x point for spending at grocery stores with CSR, then you pay for that spending using Chase Ultimate Rewards points which for CSR is at 1.5x, e.g. your $100 spending can be paid with 6,667 points ($66.67 equiv).

Chase Sapphire Reserve (CSR) has $550 annual fee. So you have to spend $550 / ($100 - $66.67) = 16.5 times to buy $100 gift cards to break even with the annual fee? That is hard for my budget

I don't get it, CSR is Chase Sapphire reward??, Because I only have the freedom card.

CSR annual fee is lowered back to $450 from July 1st to the end of the year. And if you paid $550 this quarter, you'll get $100 back as statement credit. You can also do the same with CSP albeit at 1.2x redemption rate instead of 1.5x.

CSR also has $300 travel credit every year essentially making the AF $150

How are you getting points when you pay with points?

Do we currently have 5x going on? How do you pay with points at grocery stores?
How are you getting points when you pay with points?
You dont pay with points, you buy a gift card from the store using your credit card and for a $100 gift card you get 500 points because they are giving 5x points on grocery store purchases. When the charge shows up on your credit card statement, you use your points to pay off the charge.
Normally, they used to convert 100 points = 1 cent, but for the next 3 months they are converting to 1.5 cents for every 100 points.
