This is a fantastic processor for a fantastic price. Prices may fall a little on this ($10-15) come September but probably not by much judging on the previous Ryzen launches.

Honestly, even the 9700k had a very slight gaming advantage (<5% - like a whole 3 fps!) over the 3700X. In all productivity tasks however the Ryzen was ~30% better on average. So for pure gaming you go Intel, for "gaming, but also some other stuff" Ryzen was the better call for many people.

Everything I've heard so far about the 10700k doesn't really change the above conclusion. The Intel still has higher clocks, and will also overclock better - just absolutely be sure to get the best cooling you can - an AIO cooler or a Noctua NH-D15 can't be recommended enough.

If you're an upgrader, keep in mind that beyond Ryzen 4000, AM4 is a dead end. With Intel, socket continuity is never a given.

$275 is basically the "new" sale price.
Seems like motherboards & PSU are the difficult things to get now. Especially if you don't want a 450.

I was struggling between 3600x vs 3700x and finally decided to go with 3700x.

This coupled with 32GB ram, will help with Docker, Java and php server I will be hosting on my desktop.

Not to mention kids gaming at times.

Gaming is primarily GPU, CPU on either will work.

Generally CPU intensive games only use up to 4 cores, so intel comes out ahead, but it doesn't really make a difference usually a couple of frames in the end. So pick whichever is the better deal, or if you need more cores go for ryzen
