The 5TB model shows up as $124.99 on WD website. Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy it there with their 15% student/teacher/elderly discount?
($124.99 + 15% discount = $106.24)

Its a 5400 rpm drive. Not real fast. Id pass on this as it went as low as $99.99. I bought it at that price and dont regret.

Bought this one on March 3rd for $92 for my Xbox One S. Great performant drive. No issues so far. Only disadvantage: you'll buy a ton of games that you will never play.

Edit: I stand corrected. <Hangs head.>

Not even 7200, rpm, let alone their Black line of 3.5 inchers being 10k rpm makes me feel like they advertise it falsely, but in the details it does state "Based on Black..." in the last bullet point. Since I have not shopped for any of their 2.5 inch Black drives, and not for Black 3.5 inch drives in many years, I wasn't even aware they were using 7200 rpm for the portables. the term for 10K rpm drives. Thank you for the information! Reps. I am way out of the loop.

Right, but do you see how it shows $149.99 crossed out above it? That's the price that the 15% student discount applies to, bringing the total in cart to $127.49.

Shows $124.99 for me and I'm not eligible for any discount.

Looks like woot is selling on amazon for 116.99.
why is the xbox version more expensive at 129.99, and what makes them incompatible?

Their student discount only applies on the full price (without discounts and such). The price on the WD website is already discounted, so the student discount won't apply! I tried that and was bummed that the discount was applied on the full price!

The Xbox version will work with PS4 and PC as well. From what I remember, you get 3 months of Xbox Game Pass included with the Xbox version (that's a $30 value if you don't already have Game Pass).
