Walmart.com[walmart.com] has Kuda 4 Stroke 2.6 HP Outboard Motor Tiller Motor Engine 5500 RPM,17" Shaft, Recoil Start on sale for $499.99. Shipping is free
Wish the battery technology would improve, competition would increase (motor/battery), and sale price would decrease. When that happens, boat motor maintenance iwill decline. Can't wait!
Ok ok. Maybe you're right. I don't see a 4 stroke water cooled version on eBay. Maybe this at 500 is a decent deal. I see it's also sold by Home Depot and a few other vendors. I'd avoid it unless I was able to find a source for parts.
IMO an air cooled Chonda or other standard Chinese knock off engine would be a better bet because parts and whole engine replacement would be available via HF or eBay.
Maybe someone can identify the ODM on this and the parts are out there.

You and me both, but I don't see that happening for awhile.
Still - $500 for a disposable gasoline motor isn't a deal. Remember that a motor doesn't just have to get you there, it has to get you back. I'm not sure I'd want to be any more than swimming distance from shore with one of these things.
