I used a similar deal last year but DELL delayed one of my item for almost two months which expired my credit.

with this amex offer, it is amex that is giving the cardholder $120; not dell. doesn't matter who can "see" what, "seeing" is not part of this deal.
if you buy a gc from dell and the seller of that gc is dell and not someone else other than dell, you will get the $120 statement credit from amex as long as you spend $599 or more (per the terms).
when amex gives you the credit, they only tend to reverse that credit if you return the item or cancel the transaction and such shows up on your statement. other than that, not many other reasons for them to "revoke" your credit.
when amex says spend $599 or more, they don't care about tips, taxes, shipping, freight, gratuities, donations, coupons, cash, credit, favors, handouts, earnings, spending, taxable amounts, before tax, after tax, vat, fees, duties, etc. if your statement balance increases by $599, you get the credit when you spend that amount with the designated merchant.
that's the way it is today, none of us can read the future for the program tomorrow so nobody knows otherwise to contradict the facts.
Also, nobody knows if they will take the money back only when returning an item... just because that's the only cases people have mentioned on here doesn't mean it can't happen in other cases. Why else would they put in terms you can't buy GCs? Just for no reason?
I spoke to an AMEX rep ("Kate") who confirmed that the $599 spend does not need to be in one transaction to count. The $599 can be spent over multiple transactions during the period leading up to the expiration date.
Just a tidbit in case people are looking to place multiple transactions but under the $599 threshold.
Wow, that's pretty messed up shipping date. Mine was 7/1 ship date when I had the 10% applied. I just went ahead and canceled that since it looks like Dell will ship when they feel like it anyway and just get it cheaper.

I THINK it still works on this type of deal, but not 100% sure.
Also, people wanting pcs and monitors probably should have waited until a round july 4th and most likely there will be lower prices. I can't decide whether to wait myself because I need one more samsung ssd and they always go back up to $220 or $230 for 1tb and $450 for 2tb after a while.
The motto should alway try anyway and treat it as a "maybe".
I've done this twice before, once with Chase and once with Amex. They usually ask for your order invoice or receipt, so be sure to have that ready.
