Good laptop but non-HD screen is a deal killer It's ridiculous to use non-HD screens at these times.

One of my biggest tech regrets was getting a 768p laptop for schoolwork -- word processing, research, collaborative work, etc. is cramped and lousy (especially on a 15"). Anything less than 1080p is simply not worth it in my opinion.

More pixels, the more Computing Power your machine will need to render, i3 is better suited for lower resolution and 720 HD is fine.
The intel video logic relieves the processor of almost all of the video processing. Decoding 4K HVEC barely moves the needle. Anything less than pro video editing works just fine.

Bought this computer 2 years ago from walmart on a similar deal. The motherboard crashed after 1.5 year. No customer support. NEVER buying this again.
Dude, 2 years ago this processor didnt exist. You bought another similar laptop. I am sure in two years things have changed.

I agree. A good screen is key... And the screen kills this deal.

Soitmust be faster then my i5 3rd Gen which is still going strong. The key is a decent ssd and 8gb of ram which I bet he does not have... The next key is have a CLEAN OS... no bloatware, all my pcs I have ever owned have ran soooo much better after I reinstalled the OS myself... Night VS day in difference.

Even my 12 year old q6600 is still going strong.

So? I paid $319 for one a month ago and made sure it had the 1080p screen. Specs were a little lower for ram and hard drive but that was easily upgradable unlike the screen.

It is HD but not Full HD. It is higher than 720p. The deal breaker is windows S, if you are only using it for internet browsing it's fine. But you cannot download any program from outside of Microsoft store.
It's not really higher than 720P since nobody has made 1280x720 for 12+ years. 1366x768 is what people have meant by 720p for the last 10 years.

Even at $300, there is no excuse for a 768 screen. Imagine taking the pixels in an iPhone - and then stretching it to 15". While it's not half bad at 5" -- at 15" its an instant deal killer.

The CPU is weak. I would choose AMD based CPU for better performance for the value I spend.

I bought this and have had the computer for 7 hours. I've been using it for at least 4 of those hours. I was waiting for Motile with 8gb to go to 299 but couldn't wait any longer (my current Toshiba's having overheat issues even with a working fan and being well ventilated).

After 4 hours I haven't noticed all the screen being bad at all. In fact, I have watched a dozen little videos on YouTube, Facebook and others... because I was worried after reading these posts. The screen, resolution, whatever you want to call it... fine.

It's fast. Pretty light. keys have a good touch to them. Quiet.

bad parts.
No Ethernet connection. I guess that's pretty common, but I was bummed when I realized it didn't have it.
all 3 USB ports are on the left side. Seems they could have balanced it out a bit. But I guess the engineers or cost wise.. that's the way it went.

The Motile 14" is a pound or more lighter... but this has more keys and a bigger screen. so I guess that's the trade off.. This is thin though.

So $330 out the door (with tax and some fee) I have a laptop that stays on. You think that's a horrible deal. I guess that's why we are all allowed to post.

I probably will never watch movie on my laptop or my phone. But if you're that type of user, then yeah, maybe this isn't for you. But for me, I'm very happy with my purchase.

You'll understand when you're older. 4k laptop displays became meaningless to me in my early 40s, but I could still enjoy the benefits of FHD. I used to use a FHD 13.3" laptop until my mid-40s, but had to upgrade to a 14", then a 15.6" screen or the text got too small (with Windows scaling at 100%). Starting with my 50s I had to resort to progressive lenses to be able to focus close enough use my laptop screen at a comfortable distance. Progressive lenses aren't perfect - they create areas which are sharp and blurry. I'm at the point now where FHD on a 15.6" screen is just about at the limit of my eyes to see the pixels. Even now I frequently can't see the periods anymore. I would imagine for people in their 60s or 70s, a 15.6" 720p display is the best their eyes can see, and a 15.6" FHD screen would be wasted.

It's unfortunate that younger people often get stuck with a 720p laptop screen because they're trying to buy cheap. But the screens are in fact appropriate for a specific market segment.
Thats why You should use windows scaling. I know its not perfect, so I think MS should go on and adjust scaling to newer resolutions.
