Good laptop but non-HD screen is a deal killer It's ridiculous to use non-HD screens at these times.

You can turn that off though.

One of my biggest tech regrets was getting a 768p laptop for schoolwork -- word processing, research, collaborative work, etc. is cramped and lousy (especially on a 15"). Anything less than 1080p is simply not worth it in my opinion.

I GET that this is a $300 laptop, but (for those of you defending the resolution) have you ever seen 1366x768 on a 15.6" TN display? It pretty much does not get any worse than that. Seriously. It barely breaks 100 PPI. In 2020 this is ridiculously low, and a complete eyesore.

As far as the other specs go, I think the i3 is solid at this price point, especially paired with the SSD and 8GB of DDR4. There is just no way I could recommend anyone buy this machine, unless you wanted to use an external monitor. If you are OK with a screen this bad, then good on you... I just want potential buyers to realize how bad it is. You'd be much better off spending the extra money to bump up to something with (at least) a 1080P screen.

This is not true. Specs pic on the website says 15.6 inch Full HD screen.

Does Walmart offer no-contact or curbside pickup for non-grocery orders? Every time I've done in-store pickup, it's taken MUCH longer and involved way more people than expected, both of which I'd like to avoid right now.

My man, there's no arguing with dumb. Don't even try. People want to buy a crap screen on a cheap laptop, let them argue that it's perfectly fine and "not that bad".

A proper 1080p+ model is available for only a few bucks more, but the SD bottomfeeder does not care - so let them eat dogfood

Very true. In general the lowest end laptops are rarely worth it for the budget buyers. It makes more sense to get a quality used laptop and swap out the battery than getting this bargain basement walmart crap.

1080p doesn't make a bad screen better, just clearer at seeing how awful it is

Ok deal. HD on 15.6" screen is what makes this deal lukewarm. If this was a smaller laptop, say 13.3" or less, the HD resolution would be ok.
Besides, 15.6 laptops are usually quite heavy....much heavier than a 13.3...

Is it sufficient for a work laptop? My employer is too damn cheap to provide laptops to work from home occassionally. The laptop will need to connect to a VPN for online training that can be done at home.

TLDR: If you need this for your kids or work/school and understand its limits its a deal all day. It's plenty enough for using Word, Youtube and Minecraft. Warranty is 1 year.

Disclosure: I work with computers all day. I'm not in IT, but I was oh 20 years ago. I'm in technology education at a few different levels and a Dad. I rarely post on SD but wanted to give my two cents after picking one up.

So I bought this today for my Dad who is retired and needs a computer for Zoom, surfing the internet and probably watching the occasional YouTube video. As a bit of background I've been looking for an inexpensive laptop for him for a few weeks for Fathers Day, expecting to pay about $500. When I read the specs it looked like a great deal for a new laptop. If it didn't work out I could always return it. After 8 hours of use and running Windows Update - I think this is a great deal. The build quality is what you would expect - thin sheet metal and plastic. The "sliding lens cover" is a piece of garbage, and some folks will break it immediately.

The monitor is JUST FINE. I wanted a 1080 P 15" screen for my Dad, but this fit in my budget and will get him up and communicating with family on it immediately. You can absolutely wait for a better deal that meets your needs, but if you have no clue about the discussion going on about specs try to take a look at it for yourself.

Switching out of S Mode took 2 minutes. Literally.
There's a bit of bloatware, but you can uninstall it in under 5 minutes. If you don't know what bloatware is they are programs you don't need.

Haven't installed Adobe Creative Suite, but my Dad isn't going to use it. Nor is he going to play any resource heavy games on it - he said he wants to play SimCity. To test that out I installed the Education version of Minecraft and it ran just fine. No hiccups, no stuttering. If I were to game on it though, I'd probably want a USB Mouse.

I regularly work with HP Streams as those are the 1-1 machines for students in my organization. That is a piece of garbage compared to this. If you are looking for something for your kids, this is more than powerful enough.

I just bought a Surface Pro 7, and of course it outclasses this. All together that was 3x the price. Different target market though entirely. If you "just need a computer" and you are on a budget you can keep on looking, but I'm impressed so far.

Not an expert but this deal is way better than the deal I took last month:

https://slickdeals.net/f/14040734-lenovo-ideapad-15-6-laptop-amd-ryzen-3-3200u-8gb-ram-256gb-nvme-ssd-1080p-1920-x-1080-platinum-gray-w-free-shipping-at-bestbuy-380?v=1

Paid 80bucks more for a better screen and shittier CPU

Way better deal than the Lenovo I bought last month for $380:

Not an expert, but I think the deal posted here has a slightly better CPU but a lower resolution screen. But it's 80 bucks cheaper!

That's exactly why I bought it: gonna hook it up to a monitor...for the kids school use.

School provided them laptops that BOTH won't find any OS installed on the pcie nvme ssd anymore. School locked the bios so I cant fix the issue myself either. So im outta luck. Got 2 paper weight laptops sitting in the closet and kids keep using my i7 laptop for school. I'm not ok with that. Got this for them, they'll plug it into a 2560x1080 ultrawide have an external USB keyboard and portable wireless mouse hooked up. $299 = perfection!
