Man so tempted to get something but I've cooked 99% of my meals with cast iron over the past year and have been totally satisfied. I'm trying to justify buying one of these but just can't do it.
i have cast iron griddle and 4 cast iron pans, they are good for many things. but so is these... it depends on some things Smilie

It's common sense that it wears off over time, but quality of coatings differ between manufacturers. When I pay a significant premium for a big brand with a lifetime warranty and call them once after five years as a satisfied customer, maybe I'm privileged but I've grown accustomed to some service. Personally I'll probably just go with Costco's house brand for my future cookware needs. Their guarantee is second to none.
i understand, but 5 years in a non stick is about 2x more than I get from mine.

So I actually just finished trying to make a warranty claim for an Allclad pan. Had a set of pots/pans for about 5 years and over the past few months the non-stick coating started wearing off one of them.

Emailed Allclad and sent pics, and was told that the non-stick coating wears off this way from normal use, and it's not covered under warranty. I asked if they have a option for repair/refurbishment, and this was their answer:

"Unfortunately we do not resurface or repair our cookware. We are hosting a online sale if you are interested in replacing the pan. The link is below..."

I have the tendency to pay a significant premium for items that advertise with a "lifetime warranty," but I would advise avoiding Allclad unless you're buying from Costco.
Do not buy non stick. Learn to use stainless, I can cook everything with stainless steel without food sticking to it. All u need is a bit of patient and preheat the pan correctly

If you have tjmaxx, maybe take a look there. I recently found a 3qt copper core sautee pan with lid for $50. And a 4qt copper core sautee pan for $80. Plenty of 8qt stockpot for around $130-150, some d3/d5. Set of 2 cocottes for $20. It depends on store, but If u go out and pass a tjmaxx, it's worth checking it out.

Great deals on some really good pots and pans. Wish I could jump all over this, but will have to wait till next year. Don't pass this up, because you rarely will find an All-Clad deal this good any other time of the year.

I dont see any reason to spend $95 on a nonstick. It uses the same non-stick coating as every other non-stick pan. They're good for eggs and a small amount of other things. I use one maybe 1 meal a month and my $19 non-stick I got from Target is still totally functional after 3 years.
This. The advantages of expensive pans are good browning and even heating without hotspots. Eggs don't care about either one. I honestly can't think of anything besides eggs that is better in a nonstick pan. You can get a 2-pack of great nonstick Calphalon skillets from BB&B for around $40-50. Any more money spent is wasted. They last me about 2 or 3 years of heavy use, and then it's time to replace them. This is the way.

Too many options for the non All Clad connoisseur. Can someone suggest pieces to make a good quality set without going overboard? Macy's had the D3 deal a few days ago but some of the pieces were on the smaller side, and suggestion was to wait for a sale like this.

I've seen differing experiences with All-Clad warranties - some really good, some like your experience. I personally think the degradation of the non-stick coating does impact the performance of the pan which then warrants the replacement (because I'd buy a new pan when the old coating wears off...)
Good to know!
All non-stick pans fail, whereas it's abnormal for a pan to fail or warp. Which is why they have the warsnty.

I'm impressed that coating on coated pan lasted 5 years. What model did you buy

I usually but cheap brand coating non stick pan and replace when it starts sticking, in average, it takes about 1 to 2 year.

Same situation here. I'm looking at a sauce pan maybe. We pull those out on a regular basis and so they get pretty beat up. I think I have a > decade-old paula dean sauce pot with a crusty, mangled copper bottom I could justify replacing.

Would love to also hear recs to build a set!

From reading over previous comments, seems 12 in skillet would be the way to go for fry pan. Also add saucier (3-4qt), stockpot (8qt better for family), and sauce pans (2-3qt). I think some previous reviews stated the stock pot and sauce pans don't need to be expensive, as minimal added benefits of higher layers or copper core for boiling things.

It's not a new policy. All of their cooking lines have a lifetime warranty apart from their non-stick line. It's not realistic to expect the coating to last forever anyways.
I had my All-Clad non-stick coating come off quickly, and All-Clad did not stand behind it at all. Their warranty is a joke for the non-stick line, and so is the quality. I have Calphalon non-stick and they have held up much better. I enjoy the All-Clad line, but their non-stick is terrible.

Heard the same and makes sense, but there's also aesthetics (matched). I like the brushed look personally. I was thinking 12in skillet (basic question but does a skillet need a lid?), 2&3 qt sauce pans, 8qt stockpot, 3qt saute. That gets it in at under $600 for D5 set.

Go with D3/triply, unless you have a particular affinity for copper core. America's Test Kitchen and others say D5 doesn't really cook better. Start with the 12 in skillet w/ lid (you can get a cheap one on amazon if needed), then the 8qt stockpot. Those 2 will cover you in 90% of cases, so the sets really aren't worth it. I honestly can't see the value in spending $$ on a small saucepan because you're not really searing in them and there isn't much risk of warping the small bottom.
