Can you do this with Olive oil, or do you need high smoke point oil?

non-stick coating is consumable. if it flakes/etc due to defect, that's 1 thing; but otherwise, it's normal with use.
That's funny, cause I have some of the original T-fal, made in france stuff, that is 20 some years old, coating is still there, not flaked off. With prices like this, stuff better last 40 years.

sure. i have a berndes non stick pan I got in the 90's and it's still in very good condition but other 3-4 berndes pans are gone for years...

teflon degrades at certain temps.. if you use it to sear or anything of sorts (brown, or it cooks without water) once temp goes over 350f, it starts to degrade... the non-stop 2qt saucier I have is mostly used to warm things up and make quick sauces, which rarely go over 212f.

Thanks for the notification, OP. Bought a 6 Qt covered saute pan to replace the Tramontina one I got in a set that doesn't sit flat on my glass top (not sure it ever did). Also got the flared roasting pan. Been meaning to get a good roaster, and Wirecutter voted that their upgrade pick.

I waffled back-and-forth about a 4 quart "Essential" or "Weekday" pan, as I've been wanting a saucier, and they are very similar. However, Cutlery and More is selling the Demeyere Industry5 and 5-plus 3.5 quart sauciers for $100 right now, so I think I'll go that way:
https://www.cutleryandmore.com/de...an-p136940 [cutleryandmore.com]
https://www.cutleryandmore.com/de...er-p134955 [cutleryandmore.com]

(Yes, I know I post Cutlery and More links frequently. I swear I'm just a satisfied customer. In this case, it's totally by chance, too -- these just came up in my comparison searches.)
Which of the 2 Demeyere's do you think is better? What's the difference?

I'm impressed that coating on coated pan lasted 5 years. What model did you buy

I usually but cheap brand coating non stick pan and replace when it starts sticking, in average, it takes about 1 to 2 year.
I have two 'Emeril-ware' pans (when All-Clad made them) that are non-stick and they are at least 17 yrs old now. They look and perform like they did when brand new. Take care of them and use them/care for them correctly...they'll last quite a long time.

Their 'Hard-Anodized' non-stick pans seem to last if taken care of.

They do during the 'physical' sale...not sure about the online version, as this is the first time for it (they do smaller versions of it all the time, but this one is taking place of the 'real' one).

Ok, thanks. Guess I should have bought yesterday, but couldn't decide what to get...and still haven't decided!

Thoughts on this as a good pan to start with? Or should I go with D3? This would be my first piece of All-Clad...

Honestly haven't noticed much of a difference in performance between my D5s and D3 in my cooking. Unless you have specific cooking needs (faster heating, more steady heating, etc) get whatever is cheaper.
Lots of ppl say to start w/ the 12", but I use my 10" far more, but i'm not cooking for a large family. Nor am I browning large hunks of meat on it (full tenderloin, prime rib, etc), I have other pans/flamethrower for that.

Is this the D3 10"?

There are a few 10" and I can't tell the differences.

Got myself a 6qt saute pan, graduating from an awesome $25 12" stainless skillet. I was looking to maximize diameter, but apparently even the 14" fry pan only has a flat 10" diameter. The 6qt Sautee is 13.5" with vertical sides, so that's considerably more cooking area. I only cook for 2, but often do double servings for leftovers.

I'm happy the SD5 was available, since I'd expect the greater widths are where the 5-ply makes a difference. D5 doesn't make much sense for pans less than 10" or most pots. And the Copper core seems to have suboptimal layering.
