$5.50 in new York due to significantly reduced lobster demand. I'm enjoying it. And yes lobsters do shreek loudly as you dip them in the boiling water. That's why you soak them in beer for 15 minutes to get them drunk.

my math may be a little fuzzy.... if I eat a 2-pound lobster three times a day, every single day... it will be enough to last me 10 million years!

No deal for New Yorkers as the price of Maine lobsters has been falling like a rock. It is currently $5.99 per lb in supermarkets. Also worth to note that these Maine lobsters are mostly soft shells, which means the meat is not as tender as Boston lobsters. They are also watery inside.
Where in New York are you finding these lobsters so cheap? In NYC it's still about $10/lb normally $12. In Nj I saw them for about $8/lb

Do you actually know this? Or, are you just making an assumption? There are lots of info on lobster's brain structure online that contradicts what you are saying. I'll quote just one of them as an example:
Stabbing them doesn't kill them AT ALL. It's a stupid myth perpetuated by nut jobs that like to stab things in the head before boiling them alive.

Forget about the traditional supermarkets like C-Town or Key Food. Always go get your seafood such as salmon, cod fish, shrimps, lobsters, dungeness crab, etc from those run by Chinese. The prices are MUCH cheaper and the seafood is more fresh.

I was told this by a few friends that are chefs and you see it on tv chef shows. But, I can definitely see your points on periods of freezing as that is how you supposedly euthanize a pup that cannot survive after birth.
There's definitely a lot of misinformation handed down from chef to chef as well as from cooking shows. Food science has come a long way but it's still extremely niche compared to regular cooking shows and traditions.

Watch how many times a chef will tell you to sear to "seal in the juices" when it was basically proven false based on muscle physiology, chemical science and data. Not your fault.

Sorry when I meant ctown.. I meant chinatown. I Live a few blocks from Chinatown but was always skeptical about their seafood on ice but will give it a try!

Not sure your socal location. But many Asian Market in LA are $8-9 /lb, some even steam for free.

You get to pick which ones you like in the tank.

Are you to cook all 20lbs the same day? Is there a way to freeze some or is it all or nothing?
