I have the corded version of this and its one of my most useful tools - I've cut through exhaust pipes with it and more things than I can remember.

The cordless version would probably have less power, but likely great for detailed work like buffing metal, drilling small holes, cleaning jewelry, etc. Use your imagination!

A lot! I was cutting a catalytic converter out of a low slung sports car - no room for a hacksaw or saws-all, so I had to make do with a dremel after making a perforated line of holes with an electric drill. Once removed, I bolted in the new one and took it to get welded on.

I hate exhaust work, but it was cheaper than having it towed just to have it cut out.

I'm trying to build my garage tool resources, should I just invest in a more expensive dremel or is this a good investment?

This is really basic. Buy the bigger model, it will work for anything and this small one will take forever to complete most jobs. get the 8220

Had this, the battery lasted me ~2 years with me using once a month or so. Get a corded and you will be in much better shape.
