I'm confused. You're original post has 5Gbps signaling rate as the Type-C spec. The HP product spec page states the same thing.

The Costco one does have a bigger battery, though.
Pretty sure they the same motherboard. It can drive DP 1.4 along with power and data.

EDIT nvm they are slightly different.
EDIT 2: it is gen 2 configuration: driver=hub slots=2 speed=10000Mbit/s

How much of a difference is 4500 Ryzen 7 vs 4700 Ryzen 7?

Just ordered the Acer Swift 3 with 4700 Ryzen 7 on Amazon at $650 and wondering if it's better to return that and get this. Swift 3 is locked into 8gb RAM for life whereas I like the idea that I can upgrade the RAM here with this HP Envy.

What are the much better features? Let's just say, besides the aluminum vs plastic
Comes with wireless ax wifi with BT 5
The ram is upgradable, has a spot for a 2.5 hdd
The USB c supports PD and DP 1.4 while the Lenovo only supports PD
the HP has HDMI 2.0
Slightly bigger battery if you care
Also since you're buying this from Costco you get a nice warranty and 90 day return

Depends on what your working on. If you are doing web surfing Microsoft applications etc. Even gaming is only 2-5 fps boost (you can check out techepiphany for video comparison). This laptop has more and better features than the swift. You will downgrade the cpu but get a lot more instead. Also you get a nice warranty. If I were you and there is no restocking fee or expensive return shipping cost I would do it. Best of luck.

I've never purchased a computer from Costco, but I'm interested in this deal and am a Costco member.

Question- If I buy this laptop and let my membership lapse, will the extended warranty still be valid? Does one have to be an active member to make a claim?

All you people who are complaining about soldered Ram are now complaining about expandable 8gb ram not being 16gb... This is a good deal and the extra Costco warranty is a plus.
Look bro we just want the best deal, I'd rather go for the Lenovo $599 on amazon at least you get 16gb off the bat and it is lighter by almost a pound..

This is SO helpful, thanks. I was going spend $750 on that Lenovo Ryzen 7, but this should work great to save some money, plus it's 15.6". Don't have to worry TOO much about longevity, seeing as it's Costco warranty'd.
If you plan to use it as a tablet do keep it mind you'll need to use it with both hands. As i intend to use mine as a daily driver 14" is about right for resting on my laptop.

I have a 17.3" ASUS TUF gaming laptop but use it indoors at home.

edit: resting on my lap* Im using Fleksy keyboard and it's annoying.

Hey Fam. Does anyone have time to direct me to where it officially states the RAM can be upgraded? I searched Costco, HP and a few other sites and can't find it. Appreciate any help.

laptops with 4500u and 16gb of ram outperform 4700u with 8gb of ram in benchmarks but not by a huge margin. I would only get the 4700u if i could guarantee at least 16gb dual channel.

You're right. I was thinking about thunderbolt port the site originally said it had. So I guess the only differences are the inclusion of a pen and bigger hard drive. Are you keeping yours? Mine gave me so many problems but I finally got everything working correctly yesterday.

What kind of problems were you having?

Well can upgrade to 64gb for all you ballers
True. But evidently the display doesn't warrant the effort.
