You will need to upgrade that and you need to know how and be very careful. You need to remove the rubber strips on the bottom and the adhesive below is done very poorly. Once you get the bottom off, there is a heat shield [box style] and thermal tape to deal with. I've been doing this for 25yrs so easy peasy, but to most Costco shoppers it will be quite daunting.
Is there any videos online you can recommend to learn how to do this and not F it up?

You guys bitch at 350$ lap top thats 768p now there's a Laptop with an IPS and it's still $hit? Lol you people
It's 2020. Laptops with resolutions less than 1080p shouldn't exist when we have such powerful processors. THAT is a valid complaint.

This stuff is just nitpicking

I know people are saying it is OOS but I just came from the store and they do indeed have them in stock at this price. Perhaps you just need to stop at the store.

I got Dell Inspiron 14 7405 with similar configuration but 14" screen for $655 after tax. This HP model will cost me around same after tax. Is there benefit getting this over Dell 7405 apart from 15.6" screen and costco extended warranty?

There is no reason to put 32GB of RAM in this machine. If you do work that requires it, you need more CPU and a bigger budget anyway.
I don't think there's a reason to even upgrade to 16 GB RAM. This doesn't even have discreet graphics.

This is a VERY SOLID deal!. I can't find anything negative about the specs! it checks ALL the boxes. When was the last time you see a laptop with both usb C with DP and PD AND HDMI 2.0 for under $650? The closest was the walmart HP i5-8300H A LONG TIME ago for $480. but that didnt have PD, only DP function.

And all of this with a 15W cpu that's faster than 45W cpu from just a few yrs ago. with expandable ram. backlit keyboard AND touch screen!

SOLID DEAL!!!

Just order it, I will use it for a few weeks, and most likely upgrade the ram to 16GB / question, Will going up to 32GB be worth it, will the gain justify the extra cost?
I ordered 2x16GB, and the net cost difference is $50 ($126 - ($68+tax) from Amazon ). I am willing to pay extra $50 for next four years without opening the back of the laptop again.

I plan to run a few VMs on this laptop so 32GB makes me feel safe...

The lack of discrete graphics is why you probably want more than 8GB. The integrated graphics will eat up at least 2GB of RAM.

My only question:. Does it have a second m.2 slot? Just curious if I can add a 1tb second drive internally or if I should spring for a 2tb m.2 and use the 512 elsewhere

I bought the Lenovo Flex 5 w Ryzen 7 from Costco few days ago. After using it for a few days, there were constant wifi issues. In some cases it won't even connect to wifi, while two other laptops sitting right next to it had no issues. Returned it, going to give this one a try.

Check Costco review, 2 of 3 reviewers said this hp envy has wifi issues too.

I had this laptop for a 10 days now and I've been hearing some light screeching noises from the fans from a few days and it's increasing every day.
Is this a defective piece? Anyone else observe this too?

Returning this laptop today after using it only a few times over the past two weeks. The first one I got had some bad pixels, this one is making really annoying loud chirping every time sound is being output. It's loud enough to hear over the sound. It's just too distracting and my young kids are scared of it, and it was supposed to be for their school work in the first place. So specs might be good, but I feel silly for returning two units of this. If it weren't for the annoying chirping it would be an awesome laptop.

Has anyone heard about the Chinese putting a Spy Chip Backdoor on your laptop's motherboard ?

https://www.pcmag.com/news/does-y...e-spy-chip

If possible don't buy something "Designed by China + Manufacture in China" (LENOVO)
buy something "Designed in USA + Manufactured in China" to avoid something like the spy chips being present on your laptop.
Two huge takeaways that make the article irrelevant:

1.) It's from October 2018, and it said they expected to see an attack within 30 days of the article if there were spy chips... Hasn't happened yet.
2.) It talks about corporate server motherboards. They have no incentive spying on individual consumers, so the point is moot for laptops.

There are so many people worrying about the Chinese government spying on Americans, but there is zero incentive to do so. Why would they want to know what we read, watch, or purchase (American companies already data mine)? Are we all working on top-secret projects for our own government (that spies on us)? That's some real tinfoil hat stuff. If you're truly worried, don't use any electronics, don't have any credit card or bank accounts, and don't let anyone take a picture of you...AND start about 25 years ago. Basically, invent a time machine and move off the grid.
