Totally off subject, but doesn't this take you back to the old desktop days of AMD and Intel, where you would go buy an AMD chip, use the pencil trick to unlock an Athlon/Duron, and for probably 50% of the price of the same Intel chip get something that performs better? What's even better is you don;t have to unlock it, just buy the AMD and know you're getting amazing performance for the dollar? I'm honestly shocked how well AMD is performing vs Intel, and hope that this drives more competition to bring prices down. Nice to see AMD back in the CPU neighborhood...
Thats why I own both stocks ..lol...Wink its nice to see how much amd has made intel work.
I wish AMD was as competitive against nvidia. but it's good to keep their focus on cpu i guess...lol

this is a frickin' steal!!! I have the same laptop without the pen and only has a 256gb ssd. Paid $630 for it at best buy a few weeks back, totally worth it. $20 less here and you get more. Don't hesitate, buy!!!

My local Costco had it so I picked it up. Finished all updates. Did some aida64 test for fun. It was showing 70c after 10 min of running. Kicked fan and while it was audible but wasn't so bad. Tried to run GTA5 and it wasn't un-playable but also hoped to be better. I am curious if upgrading ram to 16gb would help on gaming performance.

Also i7 one is not touchscreen. the usb C is not listed as having DP also HDMI is listed 1.4. If both are true, you have no 4K output compared to this ryzen one having two 4K outputs. However, if you can, I recommend you get both and do a comparison for us as well as testing out the USB C and HDMI 2.0 you can always return one no questions asked due to costco generous return policy.

Edit: I just called my costco and they are out of the i7 so sadly i won't be able to test out if the usb C has DP function or if the HDMI is really only 1.4 and not 2.0. Hopefully someone who has this personally can test it?
Thanks for your advice. I went to Costco store and grabbed the one listed on this thread. The i7 model was out of stock in the store. I am typing from this new laptop and is really nice.

So much hype for a $730 (after add 8gb ram and tax) laptop with an ok screen. Easy pass
I keep eyeing the xps 15 or 17.. This thing seems good value for the money but if you want something else. Don't settle. I just wish the xps 17 was cheaper to start than 1400 for a bare bones model.

It's very interesting. See my post in the wiki about the iGPU. It seems that even this newer igpu even with dual channel ram is only marginally faster than the vega 8 in the motile M142 which only have single channel ram. I think we all were expecting significant boost with dual channel ram, but for some reasons, this is not happening? lol...

I doubt GTA5 will run much faster with 16gb vs 8gb unless the game is using so much ram that it's using the virtual swapfile on the ssd. I don't think that game would use that much ram so i doubt going to 16gb will speed it up...

The extra 5% you pay will cover 1/2 a costco membership, so if you are near a Costco, you could easily save the remaining $30 by buying gas, or other stuff.
Thanks. I'm about two hours from the nearest Costco so I decided to get something from Best Buy.

I think Best Buy is better but Costco offers better value/warranty but only because I'm technical enough to deal with anything. Up to you what you value more. I'll probably return mine to get the 2020 13 on sale for 750. But really I want a 4800u/h/hs in small form factor. Hopefully something good gets release before Costco 90 days are up. Even better if Costco offers it Smilie.
The hard part for me too is that I got in on a Best Buy open box-excellent deal, so I only paid $499. I think I might actually keep the Best Buy one because of that..

Might have been mentioned, but 5% Discover cashback this quarter for warehouse purchases. Costco says they accept Apple Pay and Google pay in store, wonder if that means any linked card.

Man I "Envy" that bezel.........

Edit: To the person who thumbed down I guess you don't get what I'm saying. There have been numerous complaints of this deal about the large lower bezel of the screen. Look at it, now click the link above and look at the Best Buy version's lower bezel.

But Costco's citi credit card purchase gives you additional 2 year warranty.. so all in all 4 years warranty for this laptop..

Wondering what if there's much different between these two aside from the location of the fingerprint reader. obviously this costco has 512gb ssd but it seems like otherwise these two are very similar in the underlying basic make up?
