At this point, from what the reviews say, its impossible to tell whether you will get batteries made in Japan (which are rebranded Eneloops) or China (which don't hold their charge nearly as well nor do they get the same number of recharge cycles). Buyer beware.
And here I thought the whole point of rechargeable batteries is not having to repeatedly buy them on a subscription.
These are for your kid's toys. Cheap enough for many without breaking the bank. They are decent but not as good as eneloops. But no matters which batteries, that baby shark eats through any batteries I give it

How can you tell if they're Japanese or chinese? Is there a simple way to check once they get here and return as needed?

It looks like the price was recently increased. The price it was for awhile is $10.19. So not really a deal.

I purchased these a month ago and sent them back. They are made in China and don't hold a full charge and the charge they do get doesn't last very long. They caused so much frustration that I had to send them back and pay for the eneloops.

I own both Eneloop and AmazonBasics. AmazonBasics has it labeled where it was made. Though I haven't bought any AB recently.
