Just read a news release when I was trying to find some product info:

June 16th, 2020

Guangzhou Powecom Labor Insurance Supplies Co., Ltd appoints www.bonafidemasks.com , a division of Ball Chain Mfg. Co., Inc. as the new premier distributor for our FDA Authorized KN95 mask products in the USA.

FDA Appendix A: Authorized Imported, Non-NIOSH Approved Respirators Manufactured in China (Updated: June 17, 2020) [fda.gov]

The unit price isn't cheap: $2.4 each and shipping fee is kind of high: around $14 per order via UPS ground, although you can order more to cut down both unit price and shipping cost per unit.

However, this may be the first time we know we can get a quality KN95 on FDA authorization list from a trustful vendor which is endorsed by manufacturer.

I am providing the aforementioned and forthcoming information based on online research, in order to help people who may need quality masks during current pandemic. Yeah I understand that but why they can't produce MORE so people can use them and not spread the virus? I have been actively looking for real genuine n95 since mid march and have yet to find any at all. Been only buying cheap kn95 from different vendors. We are not going to beat this virus if ppe is not cheap and easily accessible for the masses.
Even China, known as world factory, it can't make enough medical or non-medical N95 (not KN95) for its hospitals. If you watch closely Chinese propaganda covid videos on Youtube, you can find only the front line HCW who directly dealt with covid or who worked in ICU got N95 masks, all other medical staffs wore only KN95. It's no surprise good quality N95s are still in high demand.

You don't think they're running factories full tilt? What part of "global pandemic" don't you understand? N95s are needed by health care workers because they're repeatedly exposed to people with virus. The average American walking down the street has a fraction of the chance of getting exposed.

I also hear there were problems with the hydrogen peroxide vapor technology to decontaminate N95 respirators. Basically masks aren't holding up, can't be re used as much as hoped. Batelle group or something.

There are basically 2 reasons for this
1. The manufacturer has reached their capacity and if they want to make more then they will need to invest in new machinery since tossing more workers will no longer increase production aka running 24/7 in various shifts.
2. Companies do not want to invest more since the pay back is in years for the loans they need to take out. There are a few US based companies that were interviewed and they basically said that they can ramp up but in doing so, they risk going into bankruptcy when supply from overseas meets the demand. Hospitals, government agencies and other companies will go for something that is cheaper than made local, bidding process. No company will sign a long term contract if they know that around the corner, their suppliers will eventually provide them with mask they need at per Covid prices.

I am just curious why Uncle Sam could throw $2T out but can't use a very small fraction to subsidize PPE production? I'm not questioning your reasoning but have some doubts towards govt.

I don't think it is worth paying this much for an ear loop mask which just doesn't seal like a real N95 mask with double loops. If looking at unsealed masks, then the theoretically higher filtration is not going to giving you practically more protection from a good three layer surgical mask unless your occupation requires very close proximity to an infected person or in very congested spaces rather than the aerosol transmission that most people are likely to encounter in their normal lives taking social distancing precautions where you are not likely to be fully immersed in an infected aerosol cloud for more than a minute or two.

It couldn't be worse but only if the masks are genuine and you discard ones whose edges start to wrinkle from sweat. These were never meant to be reused.

It is all about corruption and the 2k toliet bowls. In trying to make government spending more transparent, they went with the bidding system where everyone has a fair share of getting a contract. This usually leads to the lowest bidders winning. So Government A will ask for X amount of masks. The person with the lowest wins.

In the private sector it is worse. Why do you think hospitals charge 10x for Tylenol, it is to make a profit and cover cost of those without insurance.

Same with masks. I would pay $4 a mask now but know that I will get my $1 a mask in a few months than pay $2.50 dollar a mask for 2 years or 3 years, even if it is made in the US, as long as I get what I want that meets my needs (N95 certified), I do not care.

Remember when this first started, people were complaining about "I use to buy this N95 mask for less than a dollar. No way will I pay $2 dollars. Then it was $3, then $5" Now, you can not even get N95 masks" We now turn to KN95.

Again .. No way will I buy KN95, that is Chinese. Now, I'll buy anything as long as it is on that FDA list.

Almost reminds me of the "I will never drink pee" but during a Hurricane .. you got one of those fancy straws that filter stuff? Let me try it with my pee or in any environment where water is scarce

The sad part is they wouldn't have needed the DPA - a US based manufacturer of medical grade masks had offered to start making them in bulk, and the administration told him his services weren't needed. Not only would shortages have been greatly offset (if not entirely prevented), but God knows how many people wouldn't have gotten sick and how much better the overall response would have been.

But it was more important to have zero background Jared Kushner in on leading the effort than it was to protect American lives. At least we got to hear from the MyPillow guy during a press conference, that was helpful.
we need to sleep better, and he guaranteees it!

Before you can make N95, you need to have the machinery to make it. That may take months. As for material, N95 need once-obscure material called melt-blown fabric. For melt-blow fabric used by N95 mask, we're talking about fibers where one filament has a diameter of less than one micron, so we are in the nano area. The machines are not easy to make because of the exacting precision required (and also cost a lot of money to make. Costing upward of 3.8 million euros ($4.23 million) apiece). Chinese engineering firms say they're struggling. "We need about six months to make the machines, and it takes another month to assemble them,"

Since everyone is making mask right now, they are running out of high quality melt-blown fabric. And places like Taiwan able to get enough melt-blown fabric because back in Dec 2019 and Jan 2020, they already sign contract with those melt-blow fabric factory to get enough for their needs. While in USA, we are treating this like normal flu and do nothing to increase our capacity.
In addition in US, in order to certify as N95 mask, the factory need to pass certain test. And before, that kind of test can take months. So take time for factory to certify their mask as N95.

When you combine all of these, it takes a long time to make more N95. And that's why you only see a lot of poor quality 3-ply face mask that didn't meet any high USA standard like ASTM standard F2100 out there.
We have seen a lot of 3-ply face mask now and the cheaper one may not meet any standard since those cheap one likely have no quality control. In turn it is cheaper (and faster) to make but many of those factories didn't meet any sanitary standard (may be used to make toys, etc) and send out poor quality masks.
Right now, it is still hard to find N95 and ASTM F2100 mask out there at reasonable price because it takes time to start new production lines for high quality products that meet higher standard.

It says non medical on it. Am I missing something ?
I think all ear loop masks state this since they can't get the same seal as the N95 or other FDA/NIOSH approved devices.
