And that's ok. When I was a kid, we had "fluffed-up" illustrated stories of Presidents and inventors. Kids of all races need to learn about the accomplishments of a diverse set of historical figures. Small as it seems, racial representation in children's literature is actually a huge deal.

Did you read the book? It talks about racism, segregation, women's suffrage, and these women's achievements. It is a short and sweet expose of some great black history. It should be part of every child's curriculum.

This is my wife's son's favorite book. While Tyrone doesn't have much contact with his father, I still like to take up that role and read this story to him before bedtime. My wife's boyfriend will often join in on our reading before promptly joining my wife in bed. He is very familiar with this story.
